Introduction

The US navy jobs is an excellent career choice for many people. The Navy offers 100% paid education tuition, sign on bonuses, raises, housing allowance, COLA (over seas pay), and non-taxed income for those who are in designated war zones.

Some people may be unsure of how to find navy jobs, here are a few ways that you can go about looking for navy jobs.

Step 1

You need to decide if you want to be active duty Navy, or if you want to be in the Navy reserve. There are many difference, such as pay and time spent away from home. If you want to go out and see the world and do not mind traveling frequently then active duty Navy is for you. If you rather stay closer to home and only be gone a few months out of the year, then  you should consider the Navy reserves.

Step 2

The best way to look at navys jobs is to talk to a local navy recruiter. More than likely there is a recruiting office within a 50 mile radius of you! A recruiter is willing to help you out in all navy jobs aspect and explain how the navy operates further to you. The recruiter can also explain things to you such as how to go about getting in as well as benefits and pay scales and frequency of both active and reserve.

Step 3

Go to a job fair, where all branches of the military typically have a booth set up with free brochures for you to take home and consider. There may also be a navy recruiter there for you to speak with about any questions that you may have about the navy and how you go about joining. They can explain how long the process takes and where boot camp would be located.

Typically bootcamp is 6 weeks long and you will not get much form of communication with civilian life. This is to prepare you for what the real navy would be like once you join. You may be away from your family for up to a year at a time. Deployments however typically last from 6-9 months for navy jobs, however other branches may last longer.

Step 4

If you are set on staying a civilian and do not feel comfortable talking to a navy recruiter you can always try to get a civilian contracting job with the government. These jobs are typically in things such as engineering, electronics and much more!

These jobs typically offer government benefits such as retiement in 20 years and education benefits. The insurance typically requires deductiable on health insurance where as active duty navy jobs do not. These jobs typically pay anywhere from $80,000-$250,000 a year depending upon what type of civilian job that you are searching for with the navy jobs.

Step 5

The best place to look for these jobs are by looking online at usjobs.gov website. You also may be able to look at Lockheed-Martin who is one of the biggest civilian contracting companies. By getting navy jobs doing this, you are still helping our military but staying a civilian. For these jobs they will either send you to school to get qualified or they will require certain college, work, or prior military experience before they consider hiring you for these positions.

These jobs typically require some sort of security clearance which you may be able to obtain if you do not already hold a clearance. If you are confused how to get one the company will normally help you in this process.

Tips

Never sign any paperwork when speaking to a recruiter about navy jobs unless you are 100% sure that is what you want to do. If you breech your contract after signing with the US government and any affiliations it can mean possible prison time for you.

Always explain that you are checking out all options before signing any paperwork that commits you to joining.
