Attorneys Insurance Requirements To Practice in New York

Introduction

Attorneys have some of the most stressful and difficult jobs in the world. Practicing the law, as it is called, takes a lot of skill, and because it is so difficult and involves such high stakes, it also requires a lot of insurance as well. If you think that insurance is complicated enough as it is, then you might not like being an attorney just because of the insurance that is required from them.
Why are attorneys in New York? Attorneys are in New York because it is a big city. Big cities always offer a great congregation of people who want to sue each other because that’s how we do it in the United States. However, because of the amount of ‘crazy cases’ that attorneys get, their insurance is much higher that it would be at a smaller town, where people get along better.

History

Attorneys use a type of insurance called ‘liability insurance’. What is liability insurance, or as we will refer to it, attorneys insurance, is a type of insurance that functions quite differently from normal insurance. As one of the leading insurance companies, Liberty Mutual, say “As a Lawyer, you protect your clients. Who protects you?” I love this quote, I feel as if it really says how risky being a practitioner of the law is. And how essential having attorneys insurance is.
Attorneys insurance is a type of insurance that protects lawyers in the case of a malpractice lawsuit, it helps cover the costs involved with the occurrence of an attorney malpractice lawsuit. This can be a common thing, particularly after you lost a case that could have easily gone both ways.

Features

While having attorney insurance is highly advised by many people, most people who practice the law do not hold this insurance themselves. However, as much as you might like to yell at them for not having attorney insurance it is quite understandable. If you know the law as well as someone who defends and tries to use it to their advantage every day, then I would say that you are more than able to defend yourself, in the courtroom, against an argument that is more than likely not even a valid one let alone a strong one. I believe that this entitles you to be able to not have to spend all of the extra money on attorneys insurance, but instead allows you to skip on it.

Tips and comments

All of this being said, I am willing to defend my argument that while having attorneys insurance is a good thing, and I highly recommend having it, I believe that if you are able to defend yourself (legally) then you should not have to buy insurance for something that you are completely competent and able to do.
So, as was shown in the article, attorneys insurance is a controversial thing. Some people believe that attorneys should have to have attorneys insurance to prevent too many malpractice lawsuits against the attorneys, while others say that is not necessary for these people who live and breathe law. No matter the opinion it is a great thing to have, but not an essential one.
