Introduction

As people and their choices of music became diverse so did their demand to carry more and more types of music with them at all time.

But carrying too many discs was certainly not convenient. Neither was the need to carry bulky music players to actually play these discs. A more mobile format was needed. Something that was small & compact & could be carried everywhere. The world was entering the digital age now. More and more data were being produced and stored digitally. And it was during this digital boom that the mp3 music format was born. Since the mp3 size wasn't much compared to original file sizes one could store & carry a lot more music this way. However even the small mp3 size of audio files sometimes became too big to store.

In such a case the mp3 size can be reduced by lowering the bit rate of the file using mp3 editing software. This does lower the quality of audio files but not by much. But the mp3 size reduces significantly hence benefiting most users carrying mp3 music on their mobile devices such as mobile phones/mp3 players. The mp3 sizes however can also be increased by increasing the bit rate. This is desirable when the person wants a slightly higher quality mp3 file. In this case however the mp3 size also increases.

The five basic steps to increase/decrease mp3 size are given below:

Step 1

STEP 1:

Buy/Download & install an mp3 file editing software called MP3Resizer.

Step 2

STEP 2:

Check the bit rate of the mp3 you want to reduce by right clicking on the mp3 then properties after those select details. It should show something like "128kbps" or "160kbps" for example, depending on the bit rate with which it was originally encoded.

Step 3

STEP 3:

Left click & open MP3Resizer software using the icon. Click on Add Files and choose the appropriate files you want to resize.

Step 4

Step 4:

Now choose a new appropriate bit rate for your mp3. Choose a higher bit rate if you want to improve the quality of mp3. This will however increase the mp3 size. Choose a lower bit rate if you want to reduce the mp3 size significantly. This will also reduce the quality of the audio mp3 file but not by much. As standard it is advised not to reduce bit rate beyond 64kbps.

Step 5

Step 5:

Choose an appropriate output folder for the new mp3 file & click on Resize. Your appropriate file will be created with a new bit rate & decreased/increased mp3 size as per your requirement.

Conclusion

Music has become an integral part of modern society. It acts as a stress buster for most people. Some prefer hard rock metal music while others prefer soft soulful music. Hence people like to carry their music with them at all times. But one of the primary problems with carrying music the traditional way is that you have to carry lots of CD's/DVD's in which they are mainly stored. Soon this was discovered to be a hassle.
