Plan out your flower beds in order to have taller plants in the back and shorter ones towards the front where they can be seen. Draw your homes gardens on paper before you begin working outdoors. This will allow you to have a clear vision of what you want your homes gardens to look like and which plants you want to grow. Be sure to make interesting areas in the garden. Each area does not have to be straight and boring. Some meandering areas ae nice.

Step 3

Research flowers and vegetables that you would like to grow. You will want to be sure that you have the correct soil and conditions for each plant. Some will require full sun, while others may prefer partial sun or shade.

Step 4

If your homes gardens are large you may want a sprinkler system. A sprinkler system can be set to turn on automatically and to turn itself off. This allows your homes gardens to be watered even when you are not home. It saves you the trouble of dragging the house out to water the gardens as well. Many home sprinkler systems can be set to skip watering on rainy days. This keeps you from wasting water.

Step 5

A homes gardens can easily be overrun with weeds. For some inexplicable reason, weeds seem to grow much faster than the items that we plant. For this reason it is important to set aside time each day to take care of weeding. Even as little as fifteen or twenty minutes a day will help you to keep up on weeding. Keeping the job manageable is the key to success.

You do not have to work on a homes gardens all at once. Many homeowners work on their homes gardens over the course of several years before they finally have the gardens the way that they want.

It is a good idea to get your soil tested before planting. This will ensure that your soil has the proper nutrients.

Most vegetables should be planted after the last frost for your area.

Seeds can started indoors to save money over the cost of buying already established plants. It is must less expensive to buy seeds and soil to start indoors. Once your plants have sprouted, you can keep them in a sunny window until it is time to put them out in the garden.
