What You Should Know About Black Football

Introduction

Football is a worldwide recognized game. Unlike other sports, with football skills you are born. Indeed there are the rules and the techniques that one must learn for each game, but the necessary skills are native. It is a foot ball game that is loved by people all around the world. Even an impressive amount of females like this sport and despite of the fact that they do not actually play it, they like to watch it and some of them even know the rules and have their favorite football team. It is however, difficult to make way for a black football player. At the beginnings this questions was not even put as back then they did not confront with this problem.

Black football players

The American Football League stands at the bottom of the black football players in a professional team. It existed from 1960 to 1969, but during its existence it operated in direct competition with the National Football League. In 1969 the two of them merged and there was just a professional football league left. The AFL was characterized by the more liberal look towards the opportunity one must offer to black football. What the result turned out to be is the explosion of the black talent on the field. There was no easy thing for them to be integrated – back in the 60’s a wide range of number of black people were refused to be hosted in the hotels where they had the game. This triggered a boycott made out of black and white people alike. They, of course successfully lobbied. Ever since, the black football players became an option in creating the professional football teams. As a predecessor, the National Football League respected the rules and the advantages won by the American Professional Football League. The NFL is considered the top American football league in the world.

History

The first black football players that were welcomed in what is now considered to be NFL were Fritz Pollard and Bobby Marshall. This attestation exists since 1920’s. Anyhow, through the years, if it needed to be a shortage in the number of football players, the black football players were the first to be kicked off from the team. Some others that have played and left then are Harold Bradley, Jim Thorpe, Joe Lillard, Ray Kemp, George Preston Marshall, George Talliaferro, Marion Motley, Bill Willis and many others. Despite of the obvious court decisions that were made regarding the rights of black people in football, they were still given a special treatment. That is to say, they were excluded from intelligent positions, such as Quarterback and Center and were put mainly on speed positions defensive back.
