Beach Island Decorating Tips For Bedrooms

Introduction

A person's bedroom should be a quiet place to retreat to and should be decorated in a fashion that is appealing to the mind, soul and body. Beach island themes are a fairly popular décor for bedrooms as people want to experience the visual elements of the beach but sometimes they want more than that.

Step 1

Deciding on the exact theme you want for your bedroom can be a challenging task when there are so many beautiful decorative items made available on the market today. To begin turning your bedroom into the beach island retreat you have always dreamed of, you must first establish what type of color scheme your décor will be based on.

Do you want the bright tropical feel, breezy beach feel with neutrals and some colors or would you prefer a softer feel with pastels? It’s totally up to you and the feeling you want to have when you are enjoying your bedroom space. Once you decide on the color scheme, it helps the rest of the process go a little more smoothly.

Step 2

When you choose your window treatments, make sure you stick with the theme you have chosen. Think about the type of windows you have in your bedroom. Do you have floor to ceiling windows that would give you more of a breezy open feeling by having some long flowing sheers covering the windows or would you rather cover up the windows with something more solid that you can open when you wish?

Decide on window treatments based on the type of view you have from your bedroom and how much of that view you want to see. Consider the type of windows you have and how much of that view you want visible to you while you are hanging out in your retreat.

Step 3

One of my least favorite tasks is to choose bedding for a bedroom when redecorating. It’s not because I don’t like nice bedding, it’s because there are so many products available and I have a horrible time making up my mind! Make sure whatever choice you make is a fabric that feels as good as it looks.

Stick with your color scheme but don’t be afraid to add some color where color is due. It’s always a good idea to have more than one comforter set for your bed so you can make a change now and then and it’s handy to be able to remake your bed while the other set is washing. No waiting for those big bulky comforters to dry because you have a nice clean extra one to put on!

Step 4

Lighting is another important element when it comes to decorating your bedroom in a beach island theme. There are a multitude of lamps and lighting available that will fit right into the beach island theme you have chosen for your bedroom.

You just need to decide where you want soft light and if certain areas need brighter light, such as a reading nook. Ceiling fans are a must in a beach island themed bedroom and there are many on the market that will fit right into the scheme of things.

You can even introduce some beach sounds into your bedroom environment by purchasing a sound machine that provides a comforting beach sound you can play while reading your favorite book and relaxing in your beach themed bedroom retreat.

Step 5

Now that you have made your choices for window treatments, bedding and lighting, it’s time to decide other elements such as carpeting, throw rugs, paint, and other decorations. These items will complete your beach island theme and make your bedroom into the retreat you have always wanted.

Tips

Stick with your color scheme but don't be afraid to throw something in there that has a "wow factor."

Indoor palm trees are a great idea for beach island theme decorating.

Soft blues seem to be a favorite for the beach island theme decor.

Seashell lamps are great accent pieces and provide soft lighting.

Bedding is great if it's pretty, but it's even better if it's comfortable and pretty. You will pay more for higher quality bedding but a good night's sleep is worth it!
