Introduction

Want to cruise with Princess Cruise Lines with a pet? Pet-friendly cruise options aren’t as common as you would think. Let’s explore the pet policy of Princess Cruise Lines.

Step 1

As cruise vacations become more popular there is also an increase in the need for pet friendly cruises. The cruise industry is in a constant state of growth but it appears most cruise lines do not offer pet friendly cruises.

If you have a pet and want to cruise on a ship offered by Princess Cruise Lines, you may find yourself disappointed when you read this information. Princess Cruise Lines has a pet policy on their passenger contract that says they don’t allow pets except necessary service animals for disabled passengers.

Step 2

This pretty much narrows down your options when wanting your pet to accompany you on a cruise with Princess Cruise Lines. You can find the pet policy for Princess Cruise Lines by visiting: http://www.princess.com/legal/passage_contract/index.jsp.

Step 3

If you or someone you know is disabled and has a service animal that will accompany them on their cruise, it will be necessary they contact Princess Cruise Lines. The procedure would be for them to notify the Princess access office in writing via fax at: 661-284-4408. This is something that will have to be done 30 days before their cruise departure date.

Step 4

How do you know if your pet is considered a service animal? In order for your pet to be considered a service animal, the following criteria must apply:

  • While in public the dog must meet your commands and not cause disturbances.
  • While entering a building of any kind the dog will have to walk beside you.
  • When the animal is in public it should not be tempted to stray or wonder to others who may try to get his/her attention.
  • If in a restaurant setting the dog must be able to remain beside you in the floor at all times and not expect to be fed food from the table.
  • Should someone approach your service animal with intentions of petting them, the dog should not show aggression or harmful intentions towards others.
  • The dog should not hesitate to obey your commands.
  • For more information about service animal qualifications and the guidelines, you may visit: http://www.servicedogsamerica.org/certification/index.html.

Step 5

If your service animal will be cruising with you, you must follow any and all guidelines set forth by Princess Cruise Lines in order to board the ship with the animal. If you fail to meet their guidelines as indicated in the passenger contract, it could result in Princess Cruise Lines not allowing you to board the ship.

In other words, Princess Cruise Lines does not allow pets on their cruises. They only allow service animals for disabled individuals. The only other option for a pet friendly cruise vacation would be Cunard Cruise Lines. You can find out more information on Cunard Cruise Lines by visiting www.cunard.com. Make sure you read their pet policies and follow all guidelines so your pet friendly cruise will be uninterrupted.

Since pet friendly cruises are not all that common it may be a good idea to leave your pet with friends, family or others that can enjoy his/her company while you are absent.

Tips

Never try to sneak a pet aboard a Cruise Line's ship that is not pet friendly.
