About the Cruise Ship

Introduction

Cruise ships come in many shapes, sizes, weights and passenger capacity limits. Through the years, the cruise ship has transformed from voyages on much smaller ships with fewer amenities for passengers to massive sized cruise ships loaded with great amenities for passenger enjoyment and entertainment.

Th

Since 1900 the cruise ship sure has transitioned in many ways as has the opportunity to take a cruise vacation. The first cruise ship was the Prinzessin Victoria Luise which was completed in 1900. Transatlantic voyages were the exclusive trip of the cruise ship and the great amenities in that day was fine dining and staterooms that were considered to be luxurious.

Up until the mid 70s and early 80s the cruise ship had few passenger amenities with things like shuffleboard on deck, and neat little drinks with umbrellas. Since the early 80s the cruise ship has made a huge transition from very little to offer its many passengers to tons of amenities onboard that offer many entertainment and dining venues. From multiple swimming pools on some ships to spas, the cruise ship has transitioned from the simply transatlantic voyages it once took to hundreds of destinations and ports of call.

Staterooms on ships are no longer just the simple bed and nightstand as they once were. Passengers are no longer confined to the interior parts of the ship for accommodations because there are options for ocean view, balconies and suites. The definition of luxury has made a complete turn over the many years since the first cruise ship was completed.

The Cruise Ship-Now

Modernization has brought the cruise ship to be more like a floating hotel than anything. There are several different cruise line companies who are cashing in on the cruise industry as a whole.

There are still some passenger cruise ships with passenger capacities right around 2,000 but there are also much larger cruise ships that can carry over 6,000 passengers. Amenities are no longer just shuffleboard and drinks. Some amenities you will see on the cruise of today are things like:

  • Fitness Centers
  • Shops
  • Library
  • Stage Shows
  • Cinemas
  • Casinos
  • Salon Spas
  • Hot Tubs
  • Gyms
  • teams
  • Multiple Restaurants/Dining Options
  • Indoor/Outdoor Swimming Pools
  • Kids teams
  • Serenity Retreats
  • Water Slides

You name it, you will be able to find it on one of the cruise ships that sail with the fleet of one of the many cruise lines and if you cant find it there, you will discovering its just a distance away at one of the many ports you may visit while on your cruise vacation.

From transatlantic voyages years ago to 100s of ports visited today by the cruise ship, its evident that the cruise industry is now focused completely on the passengers who will be traveling onboard.

Safety features are now better than ever and hopefully the days of the Titanic are far gone. There have been a few incidents involving large cruise liners in recent news, but with multiple ships on the seas, departing from ports all over the world, it is expected that accidents can and will happen. Considering the number of ships that sail and the few accidents we hear about, the odds of having a safe cruise trip is really good.

The cruise ship sure has done a total transformation from simple voyages with very little to offer into something wonderful, magical and entertaining. What a great way to spend your next vacation.
