Introduction

Your computer’s memory dictates what your computer is able to handle and how it works. Whenever the memory card fails your computer will not work and you will need to either learn how to memory replace or buy a new computer. It is actually cheaper to learn how to memory change, especially if you’re able to do it yourself. All it takes is a few minutes to learn how to memory change.

Step 1

Turn your computer off and unplug it. Make sure that there’s no power coming into your computer so that you will not get shocked and so that none of the other computer components get burnt out. Now put your computer on a hard, flat surface. Never work on your computer on the carpet. Once on the table you can remove the coverage from the computer tower. You will need to use a screwdriver in order to remove any screws before pulling the coverage off so that you can see all of the components that are located inside of your computer.

Step 2

Use a can of compressed air to clean out the inside of your computer before you learn how to change the memory. This is important since dust builds up inside of the computer over the course of time and once there it will affect the way in which your computer performs. As such, it’s a good idea to clean it out periodically. Since you already have your computer open so that you can learn how to memory change, now is as good of time as any to clean it.

Step 3

Locate the memory card slots. They’re normally located near the wires that are attached to the motherboard. The first thing you’ll need to do whenever you are learning how to memory change is to take the old memory card out. Grab a hold of your old memory card and gently pull it outwards in order to remove it. You might need to wiggle it some in order to loosen it up enough to be able to take it out of your computer.

Step 4

The next step in learning how to memory replace is to actually install your new memory card. Most of the time it is simply a matter of pushing the new memory card gently into place. You should hear it snap. Some computers will require you to put the memory card in at a 45-degree angle before pressing down gently upon it and snapping it into place. Regardless of how the memory card goes in, you should never force it there. If you cannot learn how to how to memory install easily, then you have the wrong type or model of memory and you will need to return to the store to exchange it for the right type or model.

Step 5

Put your computer coverage back on. Plug the computer back in. Turn your computer back on. Upon start-up, enter the BIOS screen. You’ll get a message during boot up that will tell you how to do this. Once inside the BIOS reset it to accept the new memory card. The instructions on the screen will walk you through this before rebooting so that it can start normally and begin using the new memory.

Tips and Comments

Whenever you are learning how to memory change it’s vital to discharge static before touching the inside of your computer. Failure to wear an anti-static wristband can lead to your computer’s components shorting out.
