Introduction

Inkjet color printer is a type of computer printer that can create a digital image by the spray of ink drops on paper. Inkjet printer is the most commonly used printer for both small business and professional because of their inexpensive nature. The technology of inkjet printing was first introduced in 1970. These printers have ability to reproduce the images obtained from computers main dealers of inkjet printers are Hewlett Packard (HP), canon and Epson.

History

Inkjet color printers use two main technologies continuous inkjet (CIJ) and Drop-on-Demand (DOD). Drop-on-demand is further divided into thermal DOD and piezoelectric DOD. Continuous inkjet method is used all over for marking and printings on products. In continuous inkjet technology, a high-pressure pump allows liquid ink to come from a reservoir of a bottle similar to gun body and a microscopic nozzle, which creates a continuous emitting ink, drops. It is the oldest ink jet technologies still in use. It provides a fine quality of printing as well with high speed of printing. However Drop-on-Demand inkjet printer’s technology is useful in industrial inkjet printers and in consumer printers. This Drop-on-Demand inkjet technology uses piezoelectric material in an ink-filled chamber behind each nozzle. When a voltage is applied, the piezoelectric material changes its shape, which generates a pressure pulse forcing a droplet of ink from the nozzle.

Features

As compared to earlier color printers, inkjet color printers are more advantageous. There printing quality is batter then the impact of dot matrix or daisy wheel printers. As compared to expensive technologies like thermal wax, dye sublimation, and laser printing, inkjet printers take no time in warming pages and are comparatively less expensive.

Tips and comments

Moreover, inkjet color printers have number of disadvantages like original ink for inkjet printers is very expensive from $15 to $8000 per gallon. The lifetime of prints produced by aqueous ink from inkjet printers is usually shorter than those produced with solvent-based inkjet printers. Documents printed from inkjet printers require lots of care because a little drop of water can cause blurring of your document. Many problems are tried to be solved related to inkjet printers from the third party organizations like, they sell ink cartridges at more discount rate and bulk ink and cartridge self-refill kits are also available at lower prices. Many new vendors offer ink jet printer in order to use them for a long period of time by refilling many times and they are reliable too. Inkjet printed documents reliability has been increased by the introduction of pigment based inks which are now available for many inkjet printers. Resin or silicon photo papers are also available that protect paper which is also available at low cost and is complete water proof and rub resistant from dye and pigment inks, because pigment particles are too large and can be avoided only through silicon photo paper. Now the headache of cleaning head nozzle is also removed by soaking it in hot distilled water for short period of time whereas alcohol can also be used to clean inkjet's head nozzle as it dries very fast.
