Introduction

Parrots are extremely beautiful birds, but as any bird they can get some diseases. Parrot diseases are very serious because they put at risk the lives of the parrots, and in some cases, the human life.

Step 1

Parrot diseases are many, but we are going to try to explain some of them and how they can be treated. The first of the parrot diseases is the parrots fever how its commonly known. The parasite that causes this disease is called Chlamydia psittaci, and the parrot usually gets this parasite after being in contact with other animals. The parrot could get it through air too, and this kind of disease could also be transmitted to humans. Luckily, the treatment is very easy, it supposes to administrate to the parrot tetracycline for about 10 days. If this doesn't work out, then you must get the parrot to a doctor and see if it has other parrot diseases.

Step 2

Another disease that you should look out for when you decide to keep a parrot is Ascaris lumbricoides. Common through the parrot diseases, this parasite usually appears at the parrots that are brought from Australia. You can't tell for sure at first if your parrot has this parasite, but if you notice that the parrot is weak, or it hasnt got power to eat and it has diarrhea then, it suffers from this kind of disease. The only studies that have been made for this disease show that if you give your parrot papaya and oregano, it will help it get rid of the parasite. So parrot diseases can be treated with food.

Step 3

Among parrot diseases, one of the most common is the cold. Every bird can get the cold and it is easy for you to see some symptoms that will help you treat the birds disease. If the parrot sneezes a lot or you hear strange noises when its breathing, then it is most certain a cold

Step 4

When your parrot gets the cold, the first thing you should do is to isolate it from other birds that you might have. This is for the parrot not to transmit the cold to the others and to give the bird the space and quiet that it needs in order for it to get better.

Step 5

The best way to treat this disease is to give the bird lots of vitamins. Also, if you dont see any improvement in the birds condition within two days, then you will have to take the bird to a doctor to see what other treatments you could administer.

Tips and comments

So parrot diseases can be treated like any other diseases but with parrot diseases its all about you keeping a close eye on the birds condition to try to determinate if your bird is suffering from anything. Parrot diseases can be treated with normal things like vitamins or good food, so when you decide to buy a parrot, first get informed about parrot diseases because it is better to prevent some of them than actually treat them.
