Introduction

The west coast has plenty of top-rated universities for a person to choose. If you are looking to find a university on the west coast, you will not have a problem in finding one.

Step 1

Stanford University is often rated number one out of all the universities in the United States and it is located in Stanford, California. Stanford is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa and it is known for its strong liberal arts and science programs. Stanford is highly selective with the students they let in and they are a member of the Association of American Universities.

Step 2

The University of California at Berkeley is another great university located in the west. They are members of Phi Beta Kappa and the Association of American Universities. The University of California at Berkeley is one of the top universities in the country on the west coast with a low student to teacher ratio.

Step 3

Some universities on the west coast are private schools. Thomas Aquinas College, which is a Catholic liberal arts university, is located in Santa Paula, California. The school does not use actual textbooks. The curriculum is in a lecture format with seminars, tutorials, and laboratories.

Another private university located in the west is called Soka University of America. This school is founded on Buddhist principles and is located in Aliso Viejo, California. Scripps College is a private women's college that is located in Claremont, California on the west coast. This university has a strong focus on science and the liberal arts. It has a low student to teacher ratio, and it is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

California Institute of Technology or CalTech for short is located in Pasadena, California. This university has a total enrollment of two,onethree0 with ninefive0 undergraduate students. It is an engineering school with a low student to teacher ratio at nine to one. They are a member of the Association of American Universities.

Pitzer College is another liberal arts college located in Claremont, California on the west coast. This college is a member of the Claremont Colleges with its admissions test being optional. The student to teacher ratio is low. The curriculum has its focus on educational objectives.

Conclusion

Getting into some of the top universities can be difficult if you do not prepare yourself ahead of time. Study and improve your grades to where you have a grade point average between 3.8 and 4.0. Score high on the SATs.

The classes you take in high school will reflect your chances in what universities will accept you. They want to see someone who will challenge themselves so dive in and take some of the advanced classes like calculus, physics, U.S. history and others. When taking test for advanced placement classes aim to get a four or five.

You will want to ask two teachers for a letter of recommendation that you can put on your application to several universities you apply to. Put together a resume of all of your activities you have been involved in that is in school and outside of school.

Finally, be aware of social media sites. Do not put anything on your Facebook or Twitter page that you would find embarrassing or offensive to someone else. Many admission officers at universities look at a potential student's Facebook page to see what type of person they are.
