Introduction

There are many top universities in the state of Illinois.

Arizona State University is reputed as one of the best public research facilities which rank it among the top universities in Illinois. It was founded in 1885 as Temple normal school for the Arizona region and has grown from those humble beginnings to what it is today. In 1945, it was elevated to be a State College and by 1958 statewide ballot voted it to become a university status.

The college offers liberal arts, sciences, engineering, journalism, business, law and nursing as well as a variety of other courses. Its broadly organized into 14 divisions and has campuses all over the state. As one of the top universities in Illinois the school has a very competitive athletic team competing in division one of the NCAA and popularly known as Arizona State Sun Devils.

Chicago State University was founded in 1867 as Cook County Normal School and was commissioned by the County Cook commissioner. This was due to the feeling that the county was lagging behind in academic issues. It turned in to a teacher training facility in April 1867 so became a permanent teacher training college.

The school sought to get the best methods of instructing students rather than the conventional so encouraging curiosity among the learners. As the college grew it opened three branches of the Chicago Teachers College in the city which eventually became Northeastern Illinois University.

In 1967, the school changed names and was known as Chicago State College while in 1971 it became a fully fledged university, one year before moving to new premises. Its one of the top universities in Illinois that experienced bursts of activism as black students and faculty demanded greater attention which led to the creation of African-American studies program and cultural center which is part of why its rated as one of the top universities in Illinois.

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is among the top universities in Illinois that enjoys a central location. It is near Chicago, Indianapolis, and St. Louis. The college boasts of more than 1,000 student organizations and more than 150 majors. The reputation of the school makes it easy to be ranked among the top universities in Illinois with students coming from more than 50 states and 118 countries to pursue different programs as they prepare to face challenges in their careers head on.
