Hints For Online Banking

In this day and age, internet has played a big role in the lives of people by allowing the access to its different features and applications in which online banking is one of it. Through online banking, it is now more convenient for you to do any banking transactions from your home or office to anywhere you want to do it as long as there is an internet connection. Compared to traditional banks, this system will save you more time and effort because you can do everything in just one click of your mouse.

Online banking offers many benefits for you, but it also has its own risks. You may not be carrying around some cash with you that can expose you to different threats such as robbery, but you can still expose yourself to theft even with the use of internet. This is the reason you need to know a few helpful rules that you can follow for gaining access to your account online with more security and confidentiality.

The first thing that you need to do when logging-in to your bank account is typing in the correct URL of your bank into the browser. Make sure that you key in the official site of the bank before opening it. When the page opens, verify that the webpage address begins with “https” instead of just “http” because the additional “s” that stands for security shows that your computer is in a secure connection. You can also check if the padlock icon appears on the browser window. Usually, it can be found at the lower right hand corner of the window for Internet Explorer or at the lower left side for Mozilla Firefox. Whatever web browser you are using, it is a necessity to have a safety inspection.

When you have already logged in to your account, make sure that you keep your information like passwords and security questions private. Never share it with anybody and never save it on a piece of paper or in your emails. If you are using your personal computer, ensure that you have installed anti-virus software and personal firewall to protect all your data from being attacked and infected. Make certain that these software and the browsers are up-to-date and running properly. Furthermore, if you have no choice but to use a shared computer or a public one, which is highly inadvisable, be very wary about the surroundings at all times. Never leave the computer unattended even for a second, never save any files and history, and never go away without being sure that you have successfully logged out from your account. Be careful that nobody is watching while you are entering any information. Remove any files that are automatically saved on the computer by default.

To boot, it is wise not to open any email that you receive from an unknown sender, especially when it has some attachments that require you to download it. Delete the message from your inbox instantly. However, if you inadvertently opened and clicked on it, be sure to run a virus scan as soon as possible to ascertain that your computer is safe. If you are in doubt, you can change your password right away to guarantee the security of your account for online banking.

Tips and comments:

Never provide any information to anybody and to sites that would claim they are an affiliate to the bank where you have an account. In case you receive any email that would require you to do so, contact your bank at once or e-mail them to verify the legitimacy of the contents.
