That's also why they are called "desktop replacements", because of their large " 17 monitors and exceptional performance.

Of course, not all "17  monitors (the " symbol represents inches) are that good, or even worth the price, there's plenty of crappy " 17 monitors to go around and waste your hard earned money on.

HP immodestly pored a new line of long lived laptops, Asus followed on HP's heels, Lenovo didn't lag behind either, Toshiba never really managed this feat, and Alienware simply do not give a crap.

Different laptop companies offer different feature on their 17 inch monitors. Some offer little more than the screen at a cheap price, but than you have premium 17 inch monitors that are worth the cash.

The first 17 inch monitor that is truly stunning, is the Alienware M18x, which  actually has a 18 inch monitor. It has the latest and greatest in components, It has a second generation iCore7 processor, which runs at 2.7 GHz, it boasts over 16 GB of Ram, runs Windows 7 Premium, has a Native Resolution of 1920 x 1080, weighs 12 pounds, uses a nVidia GeForce GTX 580M graphics card, with 2 GB of memory, with 1 Terabyte of HDD memory and 7,200 RPM (rotations per minute) HDD. When it comes to sheer brute force and power, no laptop on earth can beat the Alienware M18x, it also costs about $3,000.

Second in line, is the 17 inch monitor of the Macbook pro, which sports Apple's premium uni-body aluminum design, large track pad, bright screen, and island-style keyboard. This laptop is mainly for Apple  and OS X diehards only, as it only has a 500 GB HDD, which rotates at 5,200 RPM, a AMD Radeon HD 6750M graphics ward with only 512 MB of memory, a integrated Intel HD 3000 GPU, and only about 4 GB of RAM. All in all, a middle of the road performance. What's stunning though is the battery life, this thing can last for nearly five hours. Which is a feat no other laptop on this list can replicate.

Last but not least, we have the HP Envy 17, which boasts a 1080p HD (LCD) screen, 8 GB RAM, a AMD Radeon HD 7690M graphics card with 1 GB of memory, a 750 GB HDD spinning at 7,200 RPM, and a two year warranty. I thinks it's a better deal than the Apple laptop.
