Introduction

More and more, people are increasingly becoming aware of environmental health and the ill effects of air, water, and soil abuse. Efforts are made by various organizations and individuals to reduce carbon footprints and preserve our earth for future generations. Various bills and laws are formulated by governments all over the world and international forums and environmental commissions are created to see that the laws are implemented and followed for environmental health.

Step 1

Indiscriminate use of chemical fertilizers has resulted in serious damage to the soil. The contamination of the soils has lead to the production of crops that have harmful chemical. Using organic fertilizers will help protect environmental health and produce crops and plants that are rich in nutrients and have no ill effects of harmful chemicals. While hybrid varieties of food are more resistant to pests and give an increased yield it takes away the real genetic makeup of the crop. The fruits and vegetables, cereals and pulses have to be conserved in their original form to conserve bio diversity and environmental health.

Step 2

Water is one very important natural resource. Industrial waste, oil spills and various other harmful activities, all due to indiscipline and lack of concern for the environment has lead to total degradation of water. Millions of people all over the world suffer from lack of hygienic drinking water. Implementing strict guidelines is the only way to resolve this problem and help people get clean drinking water for no cost.

Step 3

Careless and indiscriminate disposal of all kinds of waste material that are hazardous to health has hugely affected the environmental health. Many toxic and radioactive wastes are dumped without proper treatment resulting in problems that have short term and long term effects.

Step 4

The ozone layer that protects the earth and all the living organisms living in it from harmful sun’s rays is getting depleted at an alarming rate. Various gases like sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide and other pollutants are the reason for the thinning of the ozone layer. This thinning of the ozone layer is the reason for numerous climatic changes and increase in temperatures. Climatic changes are increasing at an alarming rate and numerous corrective measures are being taken by government for protecting environmental health.

Step 5

Every individual has to become aware of the enviornmental health problems and how it affects the earth as a whole and us as individual. Each one of us must start doing things that will help preserve and conserve natural resources. Turning off lights and fans when not needed, using less energy as much as possible, using CFLs that help save energy, using electronic and electrical appliances that help save energy, not using plastic bags, making use of recycled products, walking and cycling instead of using cars, planting trees, using less quantity of water for all purposes, maintaining and servicing automobiles and other gadgets so that they are able to work and function efficiently with less energy, using natural manures at home etc. are a few things one can do for good environmental health.

Tips

Educating our children about our earth and teaching them to respect the natural resources is a must for environmental health.
