Introduction

“Any problem you can't solve with a good guitar is either unsolvable or isn't a problem.” This was a quote I read somewhere which literally struck me with awe. Music does seem to have a very soothing and for some, spiritual affect on many people and this is why people like to learn to play various musical instruments. Among them it could be violin, piano, flute, guitar, drumming etc. However, the concern here is all about the guitar tuner. For the beginner, it is important to understand what a guitar is. A guitar can most simply be defined as “A musical instrument having a flat-backed rounded body that narrows in the middle, a long fretted neck, and usually six strings, played by strumming or plucking. Also, it is very important for those learning guitar to tune their guitars quickly and accurately. There are two types of guitar tuner and tuning methods; standard tuning and chromatic tuning. For the beginners standard guitar tuning (EADGBE) is required. However, chromatic tuning simply means that any note can be tuned even sharps and flats (e.g Eb or C#).

History

The guitar is used to refer to a number of related instruments that were developed and used across Europe beginning in the 12th century and, later, in the Americas. These instruments are descended from ones that existed in ancient Central Asia and India. For this reason guitars are distantly related to modern instruments from these regions, including the tanbur, the setar, and the sitar.

Similarly, guitar tuners have also a long history dating back to 1948 when 10 years after the invention of the strobe tuner, Chicago-based Peterson Electro-Musical Products began building instrument tuners. The first Peterson strobe tuner, called the Model 400, was introduced in 1967. It was the first solid-state strobe tuner and did not require calibration. In the 80s, rolling LED display tuners were made indicating the error in pitch by the speed of the rolling LEDs. In the 90s, Strobe Center 5000™ was born employing new stepper motors controlled by microprocessors. In 2003, the VS-II™ with an improved display, additional features, and Sweetened Tunings™ was introduced. In 2005 StroboSoft™, offering cross-platform versatility, a full complement of exclusive Sweetened Tunings™, and unlimited programmability for musicians, producers, and engineers was introduced.

Features

For those who are interested in playing guitar and making better and pleasing sounds, it is also necessary for them to make sure that their guitars are accurately tuned. It is necessary that they should know about guitar tuners. Tuning the guitar repetitively makes it easier for the guitar players to perfectly tune it in a very short time span. Manual note selection can be useful for beginners and a particular feature that is useful as it tells in which way to tune even if the string is a very long way out of tune. Those who give guitar lessons say that it is important to play and hum the first note, then follow that by playing and humming the second note. Now, try humming the first note, and without stopping, moving to the second note. Repeating it will only help in making sound better.

Tips and comments

To keep the guitar functional so that it gives good music, it is necessary to tune the guitar every time the person wants to play it. The guitars easily go out of tune therefore it is necessary that the person must know all about tuning and guitar tuners. It may take a long time to tune it initially but the more familiar with tuning, the quickly it can get done. It will not only make the sound better and pleasing but also will make a person dab hand on tuning and playing guitar.
