Enter the 3G Generation: Children And Their Smartphones

3G is the third generation of mobile telephony that is cellular technology. 3G generation as the name suggests, has two earlier generations. The first generation emerged in early 80’s with commercial deployment of Advance Mobile Phone Service cellular networks. The second generation began in the 90’s, when the mobile operators deployed two competing digital voice standards. The International Telecommunication definition of the 3G generation is as something which facilitates growth and supports diverse applications and increased bandwidth. 3G has a high efficiency in the data transfer over the 3G devices, such as the cellular phones or data cards. As previously the mobile phones used GPRS or EDGE to transfer the data, not only did that take more time but it also tested the patience of the technology user. So 3G technology is basically all about speed and high data transferring rate.

Today, as the world is growing at such a fast pace, everybody wants to be super updated with the technology. Thus, 3G generation has provided the way out and it is the next big thing. It would be wrong for us to assume that kids do not generally use cell phones and they particularly will not require such high technology, but it is worth to notice that the sale of these smart phones are more popular among the young people, that is among the children, and they are the ones that make the targeted consumer market of the smart phone company. The smart phones have done an unprecedented explosion of software games, educational programs and videos which aims at the young mind, which in turn has raised the amount of time the children spend in front of the electronics. There are thousands of apps on the Apple, which are specifically focused on the children for example, Baby Play Face and Elmo’s birthday. The 3G generation is not producing smart kids, but a more lazy generation as parents prefer their children to use smart phones and stay inside rather than running errands. The pediatrics suggests engaging children in constructive games which will help boost their brains rather than make them couch potatoes.

Tips and comments

3G generation can also be a great use to the younger kids, for example, the nursery rhyme app will sing “Humpty Dumpty” to the child. The smart phones are generally a revolutionary tool for learning and fin but can be a source of distraction too for the child, as games like Angry Birds were rated to be the most addictive app and was also ranked the most popular app. Where on one hand Smart phones portray the new generation and high end task, it can also be a source of distraction for the children. Therefore, the uses of the smart phones should be for the purpose it was initially designed for, not forgetting that it does benefit and cover everybody’s need.
