Everybody wants to have skin that is free from blemishes and flaws. If your skin is affected with skin disorders and diseases, you will not look presentable. These skin disorders and diseases will prevent you from building intimate relationships and even professional bonds with people you work with. Sad as it may seem, your appearance takes a major part in your personality. You have to look presentable and neat to achieve reliable results from other people. Failure to look acceptable enough will simply get the best out of you, so it will have an effect on your self-esteem.

Common Skin Disorders and Diseases

One of the most common skin disorders and diseases is acne. Acne can be classified as blackheads, whiteheads, pimples and pustules. Not only that, acne can leave scars that can almost be impossible to get rid of. Acne is commonly present during the adolescent phase due to the sudden change in hormones, but when these hormones are not stabilized, it can be present until adulthood. Stress, poor diet and improper hygiene practices can also aggravate this skin condition. Acne is one of the skin disorders and diseases that can be present not only in the face, but also other parts of the body such as the neck, chest and back. Acne can be managed through maintaining a clean and oil-free skin regimen. When acne becomes a chronic problem, it is best to consult your dermatologist.

Another common skin problem is eczema. It should not be confused with rashes or allergies because this skin problem is characterized by red scaly skin due to itching. It can be however triggered by allergies. This skin problem can be present on the face, arms, legs and back of the knee. It is usually present in infants under the age of 6 months and can be self-limited. However there are people who are affected with eczema for the rest of their lives. So it is important for them to keep their skin moisturized. Also, people affected should avoid staying in temperatures that are too warm or too cold.

Premature aging is also becoming a common skin problem nowadays. This may be because of the poor lifestyle practices of people. Diet and exercise, along with extremely high stress levels can also be the root cause of this problem. Medications could also cause this problem.

Psoriasis is another common skin problem characterized by silvery-white scaly skin found in almost every part of the body. The cause still remains unknown at this time.

Other common skin disorders and diseases include: warts, skin tags, hives and rashes.

Management of Skin Problems

Skin disorders and diseases can actually be prevented. Here's how:

  • Never disrupt the normal oil production of the skin. Make sure that your skin is receiving enough moisture. Avoid products that strip off the natural oils of your skin.
  • Consume a healthy diet.
  • Do not smoke.
  • Exercise regularly
  • Sleep for six to eight hours in a day.
  • Regularly consult the dermatologist.

Warnings

Never use products with harsh ingredients. Always consult your dermatologist before starting a new skin regimen or using a new product to rule out allergies since it can worsen the problem. Most of all, never self-medicate for your skin disorders and diseases.
