In 2006,  American Apparel was bought in an acquisition by Endeavor Acquisition Corporation for $360 million. The American Apparel exports clothing that is "Made in the USA" and has sold approximately $125 million of apparel outside of the United States.

A factory worker at American Apparel on average brings home $500 a week in comparison to other jobs in the same field where they make $30-$40 a day.

The company also provides many other items for their employees such as paid time off, English as a second language classess, massage therapists on site, free bicycles and maintenance on site, lunches subsidized by the company, bus passes, free parking and workers at the company can make free local and long distance calls. Employees are able to take part in the company's stocks. Initially when American Apparel first went public, they offered their employees $40 million in stock shares.

The company Americanapparel is not run by any union and has been an advocate for immigration laws. American Apparel is environmentally conscientious and is considered to be vegan. They have plans over the next four years to increase the use of organic cotton from 20% to 80%.

American Apparel has been involved in helping raise money for different causes such as providing aid to New Orleans and the Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina.  They also donated clothing that totaled well over $400,000 to the victims of the Haiti earthquake and also 5,000 pairs of socks to Soles4Souls.
