How To Install All Spa Hot Tub

Published at 02/27/2012 18:15:32

Introduction

An all spa hot tub is a big bathtub that is filled with heated water. It can be used for hydrotherapy, massage, and relaxation or soaking. Most spa hot tubs have jets for use during massage sessions. Many individuals install their tubs outdoors although they can also be placed indoors. Outdoor tubs need to be sheltered for privacy and protection from elements.

An all Spa hot tub installation is done by following these steps:

Step 1

The site for the all spa hot tub should be well prepared. Most individuals prefer to place them outdoors. Place a spa on a ground that is structurally sound to accommodate the weight of the hot tub when it is full of water and occupants. Avoid an uneven surface, as it will cause damages to the spa.

An outdoor site should have adequate drainage to prevent rainwater from forming a pool around the spa. A spa should be placed at a strategic place with proper access to power and circuit panels. The removable equipment compartment on the hot tub should be easily accessible when there is a need to service it.

Indoor spa

Install an indoor all spa in a room with proper ventilation to allow the moisture to escape easily. A spa hot tub releases water vapor that is equivalent to a shower for the duration that it was in use.

The floor structure on which to place the hot tub spa should be steady enough to support its weight together with that of the occupants. It is vital to check the specifications of a spa for estimated weight when it is full of water. The weight of a water gallon is approximately 8.35 lbs.

The floor of an all spa should have a good drain to let the water flow away after splashing on the ground. The flooring used should provide good grip for the feet. The suitable materials to use for the flooring are:

Crushed rock or gravel: These are low cost materials. The ground underneath should be well compacted to prevent settling.

Handi Spa Pads: These form an attractive base and are an alternative to concrete. The interlocked pads form a rigid base.

Concrete: Concrete is a long lasting foundation base. Although is expensive, it lasts for a long time. Concrete should be well cured before placing it in a spa.

Step 2

The first thing is to determine the load capacity of a deck. It is essential to determine the filled weight of the all spa hot tub from the manufacturer before placing it on the elevated deck. The weight should be added to that of the occupants. The weight of the spa for each square foot should not exceed the capacity of the structure. This will cause damage to a heavier spa and expose occupants to injury. There are various models of decks but set top installations are more convenient. These decks leave room for easy access to the spa cabinet during maintenance and cleaning.

Step 3

It is essential to determine the filled weight of the spa hot tub from the manufacturer before placing it on the elevated deck. The weight should be added to that of the occupants. The weight of the spa for each square foot should not exceed the capacity of the structure to prevent damage and exposing occupants to injury. There are various models of decks but set top installations are more convenient. These decks leave room for easy access to the all spa hot tub cabinet during maintenance and cleaning.

Step 4

Full size all spa hot tubs are designed to use hard-wired 220-240V GFCI protected 50 amp circuits. The all spas that have multiple pumps should be served with 60 amp circuits. The manufacturers usually include the electrical specifications. A manual disconnect device should be placed 5 ft away from the hot tub at an easily noticeable point for safety reasons.

Step 5

A perimeter walkway is a good addition after installing the all spa hopt tub as it prevents debris from sticking on the feet before stepping into the tub. You can include a concrete or pavers tome side walk. A perimeter boardwalk is also convenient.

Tips

  1. A GFCI 60A panel is more preferable. This load center can handle an all spa hot tub load of up to 60 amps.
  2. If a spa has lesser load, the model has room for extra capacity during future upgrades. The load centers should have a capacity to provide additional branch circuit that you can use to light the deck or landscape.
