Introduction

There may be times when you want to forward email from one account to another. This may be the case if you have set up a new email account to receive only specific emails so that they are more organized. It could also be that you now have a new email address and are moving away from the old one, but want to forward email that is received on the old account still. This article will tell you how this can be achieved.

Step 1

Forward email to another account in Gmail
First, click on the gear icon that will be on the top right corner of the page, and choose Settings.
On the page where you are now, to forward email, click on Forwarding and POP/IMAP. The first bit on the page will read Forwarding, and next to it, you will see Add a Forwarding Address. Here, enter the email address to which you want to forward email. A verification email will be sent to that email address by Google, to make the transaction more secure. Now, you need to go the forward email account, and follow the instructions that are in the confirmation email.

In case you want to do away with email forwarding, you only need to go back to the page where you added the email address to forward email, and deactivate forwarding.

Step 2

You can, on the other hand, forward email that meets a specific requirement by setting up a filter. The filter works by sorting email based on sender, keywords etc., and can then carry out a number of actions on that mail, including forwarding it to another address.

Step 3

You should remember that if you see a filter or a forwarding address set up that you did not add yourself, it could be a case of hacking, and you need to change your password immediately. Also be sure to delete the intruding filter or forwarding address as well.

Step 4

Forward email to another account using Microsoft Outlook
You can also forward email using Outlook, by setting up a simple rule that makes for email forwarding. Here, 'FW:' will be added to the subject line of the email, and then it will be sent to the recipient. The recipient will know that the email received by him or her has come via another account. The original copy of the email will also stay in the account it was originally sent to.

If you want the message to carry no traces of having been forwarded and coming to you via another account, rather than an email forward, you should opt for email redirect. Here, the message is not edited before it is sent to the second email address, and no headers saying it has been sent via another email address are added.

Step 5

Do not forget to test whether the email forward is working – simply send an email to yourself and see whether it reaches the other account.

Tips

With other service providers, too, the steps to forward email are pretty much the same, and you can figure them out with a bit of searching around. In case you are stuck, you can always chat with company staff.
