Introduction

A credit card is a thin plastic card. It is usually 3-1/8 inches by 2-1/8 inches in size. This card contains identification information of the holder, such as a signature or picture. It also authorizes the person named on it to charge purchases or services to his account and the charges for which he will be billed from time to time. Today, the information on the card is interpreted by automated teller machines (ATMs), store card readers, banks, and websites.

Step 1

Many of the experts today say that the majority of Americans have at least one credit card. One card is almost essential and usually there can be even two or three per head. This is because of the rapidly increasing demand of credit payments. Credit cards have become important sources of identification. Most of the processes in our daily lives leave us in an encounter with credit payments.

Step 2

Living in a technology savvy world, it is very simple to make a payment by credit card. These payments credit can be made via the Internet or over the telephone. You can even use your credit card to make payments via regular post if you are deprived of Internet access. Transactions over the Internet will assure that your payments will be delivered to the creditors in due time. It will also save you from extra charges since you wont have to worry about late fines.

Step 3

In order to make a payment online using your credit card, look at your current statement. This will allow you to find the creditors website address. Now take that address and type it into your browsers window. Then click Enter to visit that website.

Step 4

Once you are on the correct website, the next process involves accessing your account. This will require a username and password. Once you have the access to your account, make sure you write down the important details and keep them somewhere very safe. This information is like the key to the door of your account and these details are very confidential in credit payments.

Step 5

Now you will be logged in. Next you have to trace that portion of the website that allows you to make the payment. Look for an area on the website that asks for the account number that you wish to make a payment on. Enter your personal account number from your current billing statement and then click Enter to be directed to your online billing statement.

Tips

Your online statement will have options for the ways you want to make your payment. Making credit payments or paying by credit card will be one of these options. Pick the credit card you want to use and then enter your card and verification numbers. In case you are wondering, these details are on the front of your card.

This is where the amount comes in. Look at the options for the amount you want to pay with your card. These options are usually "Current Amount Due," "Total Balance Due" or "Different Amount." After selecting one of the options and entering the amount you wish to pay, you will be asked to verify the payment. If all details are correct, then click yes or enter to proceed with the credit payment.

Conclusion

Now your transaction will be complete and your payment will be transferred successfully. Your creditor will provide you with a reference number for the payment that you just made. Make it a practice to print that page or note down the reference number on your billing statement. This will be very handy for future credit card payments.
