Introduction

Having a hard drive is essential in this technologically advanced day and age. Everything is done on computers and some things you do need to be stored. Digital data is of course digitally stored as well and that is where hard drives come in. hard drives store whatever data you have on your computer so you can access it later. They come in varying shapes and sizes and so a user can pick what he needs. But you need to know what's available and what to look for so you can buy something you need. Basically first of all you need to know about the different hard drives that are on the market, their level of technology and their specifications as well as other minor details that we will get into later. The first and most key element here is to first familiarize your self with a SATA hard drive.

All we need to know is that there are two types of hard drives. One being the IDE and the other being SATA. IDE stands for Integrated Drive Electronics where as SATA stands for Serial Advanced Technology Attachment. The IDE drives were the first drives built for the purpose of in built memory in a personal computer. SATA drives were built later on and are better and more efficient specifically for the reason that they save cost and space. They can hold larger amounts of data in your personal computer. They are also a better choice and should be opted for due to a few points firstly the device lets you gain an enormous speed and each device requires its own cable and interface which gives the device increasing capacity as well and enables it to hold more data and work faster. Thus, the SATA hard drive is a more considerable choice then the IDE drives.

SATA drives work more efficiently then IDE drives. IDE drives are heavier in size. The IDE drive is split into two components the interface and the controller component. The speed of IDE drives was phenomenal when they were introduced but are no comparison for the speed of the SATA drives. SATA hard drive uses the same concept as an IDE drive to control the drives function, but in a much more efficient way. It uses up less time and gives greater speeds. It is by all means higher in efficiency then the original parallel transfer encoding of the IDE drives.

Tips

If you have a new IDE drive that is working and not giving you any trouble there is no harm in using it. If you're original drive has for some reason been damaged and you plan on upgrading your computer system and make it more efficient you should definitely get a SATA hard drive installed into your computer. With the correct controller, you can protect your data and personal documents better. Average choice of all those who have used both IDE drives and a SATA hard drive have opted for the SATA hard drive to be a better choice.
