Silicon Power Computer & Communications Company Inc. was founded in 2003 and manufactures external hard drives storage solutions, memory cards, memory card readers, USB sticks, SSD and DRAM memory sticks. The next test will introduce one of their external hard drives storage solutions, called Armor A70. When you talk about external hard drives storage you can divide them into two categories. The first category comes with small hard drives (in most cases have a HDD 2.5 "inside) with emphasis on mobility. In the second category we find external hard drives storage with HDD 3.5" inside, where the emphasis is on speed and greater capacity.
What advantages have the hard drives 2.5 " and 3.5"? First, the 2.5 "are more mobile, they do not require additional power because is enough the power from an USB port, are smaller and fit into a large pocket. As the product name suggests, we are dealing with some external hard drives storage "Survivors", resistant to water, blows, shocks, pressure and dust. These issues are not just "printed" on the box, the product complies with some standards, including "IEC 529 IPX7" (water) and "MIL-STD-810F 516.5" (blows, shock).
Although it corresponds to these standards, the external hard drives storage functionality in extreme conditions is not optimal and the outside can deteriorate even if data is not lost. The external hard drives storage connects to PC via USB (1.1 or 2.0) and is available in capacities of 250GB, 320GB, 500GB and 640GB. It is compatible with any operating system and is available in black and red colors. It has a warranty of two years. The hard drive comes in a solid box; on it you can see just about any information about it. The package includes, in addition to the HDD, an USB cable (actually two), a manual and a CD with SP Widget utility on it. The external hard drives storage tested are 500GB in size and are painted black with the Silicon Power emblem on them. The housing is one piece of aluminum, with a normal USB output in the upper corner, hermetically closed with a "cap" of rubber. Next to the USB port you have a blue LED that stays on when you have the hardware connected to PC and blinks rapidly when we transfer between HDD and PC.
Tips and comments
Today, with IT evolution it increases the amount of data we work with every day. If you use your PC for entertainment (games, movies, etc...) or work on it, we meet with large amounts of information, which if necessary should be saved, transported or transferred to another computer. With the lower data volume helps to burn it on a CD or DVD, but with higher data helps us more an external hard drives storage because we have an external storage device, which as the case may be as high as a PC, can help to transport important data. Armor A70 is not just a portable external hard drive, but it also offers data protection against knocks, shocks, dust and water. Silicon Power's engineers have thought even at the oblivious people, and included a smaller size data cable, which has its seat in the devices case, it is almost impossible to lose or forget your cable home.
