How To Use a Monitor For Display

Introduction

A display monitor is necessary for the use of most desktop and laptop computers. Conventional monitors might connect to desktop computers via the VGA or video graphics array cable that is usually colored blue. Even if you disconnect the cable from the video card on the back of a desktop computer, you can still use the monitor for display purposes on any other function desktop tower.

The display on a laptop is slightly different, in that the original equipment manufacturer connects the monitor directly to the motherboard or main board inside the PC before it leaves the factory. After owners obtain the laptop from a local retailer or online retailer, he or she can generally only use that monitor on the original computer. Although, if the display monitor on a laptop computer should malfunction, owners can easily send the system in for a repair, where a technician will remove and replace the monitor will a new display unit.

Most people are concerned about how to use the monitor while it is fully functional and connected to the PC. The most basic function of the monitor is display what you are doing on the computer, such as logging in to a user account in the operating system and customizing your desktop background. However, you can greatly expand you use of the monitor. 

Step 1

Use two display monitors for the purpose of creating real estate on the screen. For example, if you are working between two different applications, such as the Internet browser and a word processor, you can have both windows in both applications up and running at full size on the screen. Basically the video card that is installed on your desktop or laptop computer is able to intuitively split up the display, with the necessary functions and drivers built into the operating system, such as Microsoft Windows.

Step 2

Use the display for TV purposes set when you are not performing tasks. You may have to install a TV tuner, but you can also stream live TV channels from the Internet from various websites. You can also download movies and then play them via the Internet browser. Lastly, you can play movies from DVD discs.

Step 3

Use the screensaver on your display monitor for personal entertainment. In the early days of owning a personal computer, people would often experience burn marks on the glass on the monitor if it was left on and unused for a long period of time. The screensaver helped prevent that, but modern technology renders this function unnecessary. Still you can use the screensaver to show dazzling and brilliant photos and graphics. You can even create a slideshow.

Step 4

Use an oversized monitor as a presentation tool at school or for business purposes. Some display screens are large enough to allow people who are sitting a few few away to see the screen and clearly read the text. This prevents have to invest in or fiddle with a projector.

Step 5

Adjust the display screen to suit your personal needs. For example, you can adjust the size of text and brightness of the display. This is useful for people with vision problems.

 

Tips

Avoid using the display for outdoors purposes, such because the dust and humidity may damage the unit.
