Introduction

Everyone needs a good monitor to make the most of your PC experience. The type of monitors computers you need depends on several factors - what applications you use, how much space you have on your desk, how much space you need on the virtual desktop and, of course, how much money you have. From traditional CRT monitors computers to LCD monitors computers, thin and compact 15-inch models to 22-inch monitor monsters, here is what you should know before you remove money from your pocket.

History

If in recent years you replaced an older PC, you probably chose to use the new computer with the old monitors. There is no question it is still in shape - most displays have a lifespan of five years - but it is a 15-inch CRT and if you can barely read the text in 800 by 600, then you got to look at new monitors computers. Most monitor manufacturers have entry-level screens that combine low cost with minimal functions. These new screens are only good for web browsing, e-mail and other office requirements - as long as they provide adequate resolution and good frame rates for an LCD monitors computers.

Middle class and professional monitors computers lines offer, both better image quality and extensive features such as multiple image adjustment buttons and USB ports, a larger set of ergonomic options (such as height adjustment for LCDs ) and higher resolutions.

Features

Historically, graphic professionals have preferred CRT monitors computers because they offer more realistic colors and best shades. But many of them now use high-end LCD monitors computers, because they match CRT monitors computers in color quality and at the same time, they consume twice less.

Development of hardware and software for color calibration, especially for LCDs, has convinced many people to switch to flat-panels. Higher brightness of LCDs rid the professionals of the dark studio. Those working text, more than ever inclined to have LCDs because pixels on an LCD have well-defined edges, resulting in very clear letters. Gamers prefer CRTs because for the first generation of LCD refresh rates were lower, but LCDs are much faster now.

Because an LCD uses a matrix of pixels to display image it has a fixed resolution (or native) that looks best. A 15-inch LCD has a native resolution of 1024 by 768, while models 17, 18 or 19 inches are using 1280 by 1024. If you set the monitor at a resolution lower than native, the image will look blurry, because the display will use only a part of the contained pixels and the resulting image will increase to cover the entire screen. Because of how light passes through the liquid crystal display, LCD monitors look best when you sit directly in front of them.

Tips and comments

Regardless of the size of the monitor you use, a wide viewing angle is very important, especially if you want to keep the colors true and consistent when you do design or digital photo editing. Brightness decreases and colors change if you move sideways or up and down. This is one of the reasons why graphic designers prefer to use CRTs. But most of the users can tolerate and even might not notice all the differences of brightness and color.
