Published at 03/30/2012 00:58:13

Introduction

For as long as consumers have had access to conventional TV sets, people have been able to change the colors on the screen using buttons mounted directly on the frame. As TV sets became more modern, people were able to change the colors that are displayed on the screen using a remote control. The monitor for a desktop computer looks very similar to that that of a TV set, and it is possible to make some basic display changes if the manufacturer built that controls into the monitor.

Additionally, you should think about changing the color of the monitor from the Windows operating system. Most computers have an internal graphics or video card and this is where the blue VGA cable running from the monitor connects to the computer. It is from this advanced graphics card that you can do amazing things to the color that is displayed on your screen as you use the computer.

Step 1

Click on the Start button in the bottom left hand corner of the Windows desktop. This reveals the Start Menu as it rises from the taskbar at the bottom of the desktop. The utility in Windows that is going to help you you change the colors that are displayed on the screen is called the "Windows Color and Appearance" utility. Type this full phrase in the search box at the bottom of the Start Menu and then press the Enter key to open a new window.

Step 2

Click on one of the colored squares to change from what is currently displayed on the screen in Windows. For example the default color by be set to the customary blue color, but you can select red, green, orange or even yellow.

Step 3

Add a check mark next to the box that is labeled Enable Transparency. This makes the colors that are displayed on the screen have some transparency so that you can see other objects in the background of Windows.

Step 4

Change the color intensity by pulling the slider left or right. This might make it easier to distinguish the colors that are displayed on the screen.

Step 5

Click on the Save Changes button to save all of your preferences for colors that are displayed on the screen.

Tips

Know that colors that are displayed on the screen can affect your mood.
