Introduction

The prostate gland is found in the male urinary system. It secretes a fluid that contains sperm. Men over the age of 60 may experience cancer prostate symptoms; however, the cancer can affect younger men as well. Cancer cells in the prostate may spread to the male reproductive system and organs in the pelvis. When found in its earliest stages, cancer of the prostate may be successfully treated by doctors.

History

Men may experience the first symptoms after the cancer has advanced to a late stage. The symptoms generally cause problems within the urinary system, which includes the bladder, urethra and kidneys.

Difficulty Urinating

One of the first signs and symptoms is difficulty urinating. Men may have problems when they attempt to urinate. The bladder stores urine once it travels from the kidneys via the ureter tubes. When it reaches the bladder, the pressure builds until there is an urgency to use the facilities. Men with prostate cancer symptoms may not release the urine when they try. It may take several minutes before they produce a stream.

Dribbling

The term dribbling describes prostate cancer symptoms that continue well after men urinate. Small amounts of urine may leak out anytime of the day and night. It may present problems for men while they sleep which may lead to incontinence overnight.

Straining

If the prostate enlarges or becomes blocked, men may feel the need to strain while urinating. They may not completely empty the bladder. This may cause further problems such as pain.

Pain

Pain may accompany urination in some men with cancer prostate symptoms. The pain may be mild or severe depending on the stage of cancer and person that has it. Pain may also be felt in the pelvis and abdomen.

Blood in Urine

Blood in the urine may represent a well-advanced sign of cancer. Men who experience this symptom may also have blood in their semen.

Features

Not all men will experience prostate cancer symptoms. Some men may only have problems that occur with an enlarged gland. It is important for all men to get annual checkups just in case they have either problem. Checking with a physician may help locate conditions that affect both the urinary and reproductive systems in their earliest stages. This benefits men by increasing their chances of survival and success with treatments.

Treatment for prostate cancer symptoms may include surgery to remove cancerous cells and tissue. Men may also under radiation therapy to kill cancer cells in the gland and any other places affected by the cancer.

Tips and comments

Tip #1: Eat healthy meals that include vegetables and fresh fruit. Avoid fatty meats and sugary foods that may change the cellular health in the body.

Tip #2: Drink plenty of water and or healthy fluids each day. Men should drink between 10 and 13 cups per day. They tend to lose a great deal of fluid in the body from sweating. Water replenishes the body, keeps the kidneys functioning properly and reduces problems with the prostate gland.

Tip #3: See a physician for men's wellness checkups. Preventing cancer prostate symptoms before they begin is critical to staying healthy.
