Introduction

Symptom Of Brain Cancer

A symptom of brain cancer are usually found late in the progression of the disease. In most instances, the symptoms do not appear until the latter stages. Due to the wide range of symptoms a person can experience, it is often difficult to determine whether they are due to brain cancer or to other illnesses. Diagnostic testing such as a CT scan of the brain or an MRI scan are usually used to diagnosis the disease. If the symptoms of brain cancer are confirmed during diagnostic testing, the physician will most likely perform a biopsy to determine the type of tumor. Medications are often given to control the symptoms of brain cancer during treatment.

Most Common Symptoms

The most common symptom of brain cancer is a headache. The headache is usually the result of swelling in the brain that results from a cancerous tumor. Frequent headaches can occur early in the progression of the disease or in its latter stages. Weakness, difficulty and clumsiness also occur as the disease progresses. When the cancerous tumor grows and begins to affect other parts of the brain, it can prevent your brain from functioning as it normally would. Seizures is a common symptom of brain cancer. Although a symptom of brain cancer is most likely to occur as the disease progresses, it should be noted that any of the symptoms can happen at the earliest onset of the disease.

Other Symptoms

An ability to concentrate, nausea and difficulty speaking can also occur for people with brain cancer. An altered mental state that results in poor memory, decreased alertness and an inability to pay attention are also symptoms of brain cancer. A decreased awareness can prove to be dangerous and lead to a brain cancer sufferer further injuring themselves accidentally. As the brain cancer progresses and the size of the tumor increases, a sufferer's emotional and intellectual capacity are greatly impacted. The sufferer may find that he is unable to cope with simple daily challenges such as getting dressed or preparing a meal. In the later stages of the disease, a change in vision is an often noted symptom of brain cancer. The change can occur gradually or suddenly depending on the type of brain cancer and its location.

Tips and comments

It is important to seek treatment as soon as possible. Any significant changes in health including the aforementioned symptoms should immediately be addressed with a physician. The earlier the disease is diagnosed, the more treatment options are available. A failure to diagnosis the disease in the earliest stage possible could potentially lead to a decreased chance of survival. If a loved one currently has brain cancer and experiences symptoms such as a sudden fever, sensory problems or excessive sleepiness, contact a physician immediately. The onset of new symptoms of brain cancer could be an indication that the disease has further progressed. The new symptoms could also be an indication that the treatment being used is not enough or too strong. Confer with a medical professional to determine the best course of treatment and care for symptoms of brain cancer.
