Hair is the main feature of the human body. More than males, it is females who are obsessive about their hair. When women lose hair on a regular basis, it becomes a cause of worry. In the past, only men used to lose hair, mainly with age and in some cases due to illnesses. However, in recent times, the number of women losing hair has increased and this is due to emotional and physical factors. In case of men, hair usually begins to recede from the temporal and the vertex regions of the head. But, in case of women, the thinning of hair starts from the frontal portion of the head and then it goes to the mid scalp and gradually to the rear part of the head.

  • Thinning of hair is generally visible as the women grow old, especially when they start reaching the age of fifty. However, nowadays there is no precise age for losing hair. Women even in their 20’s experience loss of hair. The reason for this abnormality is pollution, hectic life of modern women, lack of sleep and last but not the least t lack of proper hair care.
  • The other three common factors of women hair loss are androgenetic alopecia, alopecia areata and telogen effluvium.
  • Hair loss in women takes place mainly because of androgenetic alopecia. This occurs due to the alteration of testosterone and dihydrotesterone.
  • Secondly, hair loss in females is due to telogen effluvium, in this case, the hair progressively becomes thinner. This disorder normally happens when tragedy has struck the life of a woman. The huge stress that follows, accompanied by loneliness is enough to disturb the growth of hair. In Alopecia areata, patches of hair fall off from the scalp.
