Few are the films in the history that remain popular since they were released, now matter how old they are, and even fewer are the films that are adopted from a novel. Who doesn't know the famous, all time classic film “To kill a Mockingbird” in which Gregory Peck remarkable performance as “Finch” had indeed been his one of his best performance ever. Gregory Peck won the heart of millions in that film and indeed he was one of the most all time favourite and top notch actor ever. To kill a mockingbird originally has been adopted from the Harper Lee’s novel of the same name.

The film “To kill a mockingbird” was released in back in 1962, it's an all time favourite American drama film, which even today is considered to be one of the best films in the history of cinema. National film registry registered this film in 1995, and it is listed at the number twenty fifth in the Americas greatest movies of all time by the American film institute (AFI). In 2003, AFI awarded ‘Finch’ the greatest hero of the twentieth century. It is without a fact that this film has received unprecedented acknowledgments.

The film basically depicts the society behaviour towards racism and their rationale towards the black people. In the film Jean Louise ‘Scout’ (Mary Badham) and her brother Jem (Phillip Alford) live in a fictitious town called Maycomb, Alabama in the 1930s. Both brother and sister spend their childhood like any other children, playing together and seeing the world through their innocent eyes and spying on the Arthur ‘Boo’ Radley, who is popular among the children as the bogeyman. Their father Atticus (Gregory Peck) is a town lawyer who religiously believes that no one is above law and everyone should be treated fairly and everyone should be brought to justice. Through their father, Scout and Jem get to know the evils in the society and the prevalence of racism which they witness as they grow up and get mature. In the film to kill a mockingbird, their father takes them to a rape trial, where a black man is wrongly found guilty. Despite clear cut and strong evidence, proving the black man’s innocence, the jury, due to their biased opinion against the blacks, wrongfully accuse him and charge him of rape. Later, after few months, Scout and Jem were returning from a halloween party when they were attacked by Bob Ewell, the drunken father of the raped girl and the real assailant, luckily the both the kids don't get hurt, since their costume protect them from the knife. Out of nowhere Arthur Boo emerges and save the kids from the blatant attack from Bob. The children then realise that the Boo had always cared for them and despite the children taunting and hurling insults to him.

Tips and comments

The film “To kill a mockingbird” has received number of accolades and awards. It won three academy awards out of its eight nominees. It won the academy award for best actor, best art direction and best adapted screenplay. It also won the Golden Globe Award for best actor, for best original score and for the best film promoting the international understanding. In 1963, “To kill a mockingbird” won the Cannes Film Festival award. The film is a must watch drama film. I can guarantee you that throughout the 128 minutes of the movie, you won't move an inch away from the film.
