Introduction

Pianos are a very delicate and complicated instrument when it comes to their tuning and repairing. One false move can cause you a lot of money. Maybe in some cases, it can cost you a brand new piano. Meddling around with the big thing won’t be wise if you do not have any knowledge about pianos. Tuning instruments piano might require a bit of technical skills, but what’s more needed is having a little knowledge about piano basics and their keys. Suppose you don’t know what the middle C key is. Seriously, if you don’t, there’s no need to even think about tuning that big thing. Instruments piano tuning can be more costly this way.

Step 1

Step 1: Clear the entire room from things that might be a distraction and cause harm while tuning instruments piano. You need to place the all required tools within your reach so you don’t have to go and fetch the tools over and over again. Gently take the cover off to expose the area where the piano contains all the strings and hammers. Note that if you want to tune instruments piano nearly to perfection, you need to have a highly trained ear to detect even the slightest of change in the key sounds.

Step 2

Step 2: A rubber wedge and electronic piano tuner will be required for tuning. If you don’t have an electronic tuner, then you can always settle in for a tuning wrench. But remember to tighten or loosen the strings very carefully yet very swiftly while tuning instruments piano. Any false move can cause a string to break. Even if you tighten up the strings a bit too much, another thing to remember is, don’t go about tuning all the strings once, rather do it one at a time.

Step 3

Step 3: Locate the middle C key in the piano. Hit the middle C key to prompt the hammer. Check if it hits the one, two and three string right. Locating the pin, you will need to tighten or loosen the string carefully to make that perfect sound. Do it with the help of the tuning wrench. Place the rubber wedges against the other strings so they won’t become a distraction. You need to be very careful when you tighten the string. Tighten it just to perfect to make the piano sound right.

Step 4

Step 4: Tuning instruments piano can be tricky because unless you don’t get that sound right, the piano won’t be fun to play. Hit the key repeatedly until you get the perfect sound. Loosening and tightening the string will help. If there is a flat sound then you need to tighten the string, and if the sound is sharp, then the string needs to loosen up a bit.

Step 5

Step 5: Carefully removing the wedges and wrench from the pin, and repeat the same procedure with the rest of the two strings with the middle C key. Then you can repeat the same steps with the higher octave and then the lower one to tune your instruments piano.

Tip

If you ask a piano manufacturer, they recommend tuning instruments piano twice a year to say the least. Reason being whenever the season changes, warm and cold weather causes the strings to contract and stretch respectively. As a result, tuning instruments piano becomes quite necessary if you want your big device to sound right.
