Best Song Commercial

Introduction

The song commercial uses serves a vital role in advertising. A single jingle can create a massive impact on the promotion of a product or service. Are you familiar with jingles such as Mentos’ Mentos Fresh and Full of Life, which was very popular in the 90s? That is one great example of an effective song featured in a television commercial. Part of the idea in advertising is to appeal to every consumer’s five senses, as much as possible, that is. Catchy commercial jingles can positively affect the choice of consumers.

Meanwhile, an article in The Economist claims the so-called death of the jingle. The said article stresses the death of the jingle because of the trend known as synchronization. This trend allows pop hits to be used to market a product or service, instead of using a traditional jingle. Gone are the days when advertisers take the effort of painstakingly composing a commercial song specifically for a particular product or service. Whether or not jingles are dead, or starting to die, the fact remains that advertising still uses music to create an impact on consumers, whether it be in traditional jingle form or in the form of synchronization—using pop songs.

With these in mind, it would be wise for advertisers to follow such trend. Below are five ways to effectively advertise with the use of music in any commercial.

Step 1

Capitalize on the Latest Pop or Rock Star

One way to ensure that a commercial song will be a major success is to capitalize on the latest pop or rock star. Consumers are naturally drawn to what is cool and hip, and this is a surefire way to let the cash flow in. From Lady Gaga to Katy Perry, consumers will no doubt dance along to their tunes. On the other hand, stars do fade, so advertisers must choose wisely.

Step 2

Stick to the Classics

On the extreme side of the spectrum is the charisma of a classic artist. Inviting Sir Elton John to sing one of his hit songs from the 1970s as a commercial song, or convincing Paul McCartney to sell a hamburger by singing a classic Beatles song seem like a great idea. The classics appeal to almost everyone, from the young to the not-so-young.

Step 3

Play Around with Lyrics

Advertisers who decide on using a pop or classic hit song also have the option of playing around with the lyrics a bit. Of course, this involves copyright duties that need to be carried out responsibly by the advertiser. Watching or hearing a commercial use a pop song with different lyrics will no doubt appeal to consumers and will stick to them like super glue—the tune is so familiar that the tweaked lyrics can easily be remembered, and the message of the commercial song will be effortlessly ingrained in their subconscious.

Step 4

Compose a Catchy Riff

Another way for advertisers to incorporate music into commercials is to compose a catchy riff. A great instrumental with a powerful bass line or flowing guitar riffs will surely attract consumers. An effective riff in a commercial song will no doubt be etched into their minds, making the product easily memorable and appealing.

Step 5

The Power of the Celebrity

Lastly, advertisers may opt to capitalize on the power of the celebrity. There’s nothing more interesting than hearing a non-singing celebrity sing a popular song. For instance, hearing Angelina Jolie croon a song by The Carpenters would definitely appeal not only to Carpenter fans but to Angelina lovers as well. The idea of a powerful celebrity getting all loose and singing for a commercial song seems a little farfetched and risky, but most successes stem from risks and taking the unconventional road.

Tips

The tips listed above are just a few of the wide array of ideas which advertisers can definitely benefit from. The song commercial uses can definitely make or break the totality of the image of a product or service and can pave the way for sales to sky-rocket, or plummet, for that matter.
