Introduction

Windows Media Maker is a software application included with the following Microsoft Windows operating systems: Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7. The first version of Windows Movie Maker was available in the year 2000 for Windows Me. Windows Movie Maker for the current Windows OS (Windows 7) is called Windows Live Movie Maker, which is included in the Windows Live Essentials pre-installed on your computer or you can download it from Microsoft's official website. Windows Movie Maker in Windows 7 has similar features to previous versions of Windows Movie Maker, but Windows Live Movie Maker has more features, such as the ability to upload more audio and video types and using a webcam to capture video. The type of movies you can play in Windows Movie Maker are AVI, FLV, WMV, 3GP, 3G2, MOV, DVR-MS, MPG, M4V, M2T, M2TS, MP2, ASF, MP4, and 3GPP.

Step 1

Find Windows Movie Maker on your PC. Go to "Start" and then click on "All Programs." Find the program that is called "Windows Live Movie Maker." Click on "Windows Live Movie Maker" to open the software program.

Step 2

Click the option on the right side of the screen that says, "Click here to browse for videos and photos." A windows appears on your screen. This allows you to look for a movie you want to play on Windows Movie Maker.

Step 3

Search your PC for the movie you want to play. The movie can be any of those video types that is mentioned above. Make sure the video type is the correct video type. The video will not play if Windows Movie Maker does not support the video file.

Step 4

Click on one of the movies you want to play in Windows Movie Maker and then click "Open." If you want to play more than one movie in the program, you can hold down the "Ctrl" key. Hold down the "Ctrl" key when you press a video you want to add. Once you have the multiple movies you want to play, just click "Open." The video contents appear on the right side of the screen.

Step 5

Click the blue triangle on the left side of the screen. This is the button you press to play a movie on Windows Movie Maker. Test out the video by pressing "Play" in the software program. You want to know if the movie works or not. Just because your video may be compatible with Windows Movie Maker does not mean it will play. Sometimes certain movies will not play because of other reasons, such as the video codec is broken or other issues with video playback. If your video works, you have successfully played your movie in the Windows Movie Maker software program.
