How To Use Windows Restore System

Published at 03/21/2012 22:59:05

Introduction

The Windows System Restore feature is free for everyone who owns a PC. Traditionally when computer systems have broken down, users had to take the PC to a local repair person to have them diagnosis what went wrong and then implement a fix. Today, you can repair your own PC problems. The hardware and software components on your PC are very complicated. Although many modern PC users have the basic technical literacy to fix PCs, it is very difficult to fix many problems that happen out of the blue. In fact, Windows users may be familiar with the error known as the Blue Screen of Death.

Windows System Restore backs up your PC from time to time. You can refer to one of these restore points as you attempt to fix your PC.

Step 1

Use your mouse to click on the Start button. This reveals what is called the Start Menu in the Windows operating systems, including Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7. Type the words Windows System Restore in the search box at the bottom of the Start menu. Click on the System Restore link when it appears at the top of the Start Menu.

Step 2

Wait for the Windows System Restore box to load and open on your screen. Hit the button labeled Next. You should then be able to see a list of restore points that the Windows operating system has automatically made over time.

Step 3

Look over the restore points that the Windows System Restore utility has made. You will see a lot of helpful data to help you make an educated guess as to when your computer began having problems. Use the date, time and other descriptive data to learn more about that restore point.

Step 4

Use your mouse to click on a restore point. This selects or highlights that restore point. Then, click the Next button, which confirms that want to use that restore point in the Windows System Restore utility. This also transitions to the next page in the dialog box.

Step 5

Select the button that is labeled Finish, if you are certain you want to restore you computer to the timeframe that you highlighted in previous steps. You will be asked to confirm your choice once again, just to be sure. Restart your computer when prompted by the Windows System Restore utility.
