Having a healthy and safe workplace can be a challenge to some companies because of the many aspects that has to be looked into. But it is observed to be more difficult to have cases of occupational lung diseases within the company since it can be more costly and detrimental to business too.


Potential hazards to health are now almost everywhere and is more possible that it has ever been for the past years because of the advancements of technology and the emergence of many plants and factories all over the world. More and more people are exposed to harmful particles and elements everyday when they are at work. The risks are now higher.

Nowadays, there are many existing occupational lung diseases that are possible to affect people who are able to inhale particles that are harmful to the body. Frequency to exposure of harmful particles can make each of these diseases to occur. Workplaces should be made sure that they are free from these harmful particles as much as possible to lower down the risk factors in employees or workers.


Those that are working in companies need to know what level of risks they are getting themselves into during their work. Here are some of the common types of occupational lung diseases that are in certain workplaces who are not making sure their employees are safe;


1. Occupational Asthma – This type of disease manifests symptoms like that of asthma and is caused by the irritants inhaled in workplaces. These irritants include fumes at plants and refiners.


2. Pneumoconiosis – Inhalation of coal dust is what causes this type of lung disease.


3. Bronchiolitis Obliterans – This one of the rare lung disorder that happens the moment you inhale byproducts of chemicals like diacetyl and dyes. Diacetyl is known as the butter flavor used for popcorns.


4. Hypersensitivity pneumonitis – This disease is caused by the inhalation of fungi from different kinds of sources like moldy hay or bird droppings.


5. Silicosis – When you inhale free crystalline silica you become prone to this disease. This element is commonly found in mines, blasting sites and those facilities that process stone, glass or clay.

One important element in man’s survival is the air he breathes. Breathing air is as important as the lung itself since it is responsible in making you capable of inhaling. However, air that is not clean and contains harmful chemicals can damage the lungs and cause occupational lung diseases. When this happens, it compromises the health condition of a person since oxygen intake will eventually be limited.

Be Conscious Of Your Lungs

Your lungs should be in great condition for it to be able to function properly and give you the right supply of oxygen distributed all over your body for you to survive.


Since it is impossible to always be in a work environment which will afford you to breathe clean air only, it is advisable to take some measures in order to avoid inhaling more of those harmful fumes and chemicals. The moment you notice some signs of irregularities with your respiratory functions, have yourself checked for any complications or occupational lung diseases.
