Introduction

Green skin masks are a great way to revitalize the skin. Many spas and beauty parlors offer green skin mask procedures but these procedures cost hundreds of dollars. However, you do not need to shell out a fortune to get a green skin mask. You can use some easily available ingredients to a mask of your own. In fact, a homemade mask can be much more beneficial if it is made using proper directions. This is because of the fact that a homemade green skin mask does not contain the toxic chemicals that are so common in green skin masks that are available commercially.

History

Let us take a look at how exactly do green skin masks work. A mixture of certain substances is applied on to the face and left to dry for a few minutes (typically for 20 minutes or until the face pack looks completely dry). The skin is porous and absorbs all the goodness from the ingredients of the green skin mask. Sometimes, the layer of the dried mixture can be separated from the skin without breaking it. This is why it is referred to as a ‘mask’. The green that you see in most green skin masks is avocado. Avocado has monounsaturated fats and is said to be good for dry skin. But, green skin masks may not be necessarily limited to the use of avocados. There are a number of variations. Let us take a look at some of the popular recipes for green skin masks for different skin types.

Features

For dry skin: Homemade avocado and honey face pack - Make sure that the avocado is fairly ripe. This will help you to mash it up well. Take about 2 table spoons of honey in a small bowl and mix in equal amount of avocado. Add an egg yolk to the mixture and mix well. The egg yolk is rich is fats – this will help to balance out the dryness of the skin. Apply the mixture all over the face and wash off after half an hour. If you do not manage to get avocados, then use milk fat instead.

If you do not manage to find the ingredients locally, they can easily be ordered online. You will need green clay for this mask. It is also known as bentonite. Mix 1tablespoon of this clay with 1 tablespoon of apricot oil and 3 tablespoons of palmarossa oil. Add in a few drops of warm water and spread the mixture all over the face but avoid the areas around the yes. Wash off with warm water after 10 -15 minutes.

For sensitive skin: Homemade yogurt and oatmeal face mask – take half a cup of thick, natural yogurt and mix in a couple of table spoons of oatmeal. Mix the two ingredients together and apply on the face. Leave the mixture on for 20-30 minutes and rinse off with cold water. This green skin mask does wonders to sun burnt skin. It is also good for all other types of skin. If your skin is oily, then you may add in some citrus juice into the mixture and if your skin type is dry then you may add a couple of tablespoons of honey.
