Every day life takes a toll on your skin and hair. Not only do you have environmental factors like the sun and pollutants, but you also have your own daily habits like what you eat against you. Good skin and healthy hair can come easily when you adopt healthy habits and take charge of your beauty care with no-nonsense quick tips.
Take it off
The number one priority you should have for skin and hair care is removing your makeup. How often do you come home at night, too tired to even think about doing anything but falling into bed? This is the worst thing for your skin and can add years to your face if done often enough.
You do not need to wait for bedtime to do a beauty routine. If you are staying in for the night, do it as soon as you come home from work or before you sit down and relax in front of the TV. It does not matter when you do it, just do it.
Relax the Ponytail
Skin and hair take a lot of abuse during the day and while you know your skin needs special care, you cannot forget about your hair. Hair dryers, styling rods, and products all wreak havoc on the hair, but so do simple things like throwing it up in a pony tail.
If you have the habit of wearing ponytails, hats, or pulling your hair back in any way, remember to let your hair rest. Take the ponytail out at night a few hours before bed so your hair can relax naturally. Do not pull hair back so tightly, this puts a strain on the hair and will break the strands overtime, leaving you with broken, frazzled looking hair.
Protecting skin and hair from the sun should be a number one priority. The sun causes the skin to age prematurely and damages it, sometimes to the point of skin cancer. But the sun can also damage your hair, causing it to dry out and become brittle from too much exposure.
You do not have to break up your skin and hair routine to wear sunscreen anymore. Makeup with UV protection is readily available as well as hair products with sunscreen built in.
Everyone knows that smoking is bad for the health, leading to lung cancer and various other health problems. But smoking is also bad for the skin and hair.
Smoking causes the skin to age prematurely, the number one cause for all those little lines around the mouth. And the toxins and chemicals in the smoke get into the hair, not only leaving it smelling horrific but robbing it of its essential oils, drying it out and making it brittle.
If you want healthy skin and hair, reach for some good food. The vitamins and minerals in certain foods do not only feed the body, but they feed the skin and hair. A diet rich in good fats and vitamins helps promote hair growth, creating longer and stronger hair as well as younger looking skin.
Change skin and hair care according to seasons. The skin and hair change just as the seasons, so your care should adjust with those needs.
Keep thick creams on the shelf during the summer and use extra moisturizer in the winter for skin care.
Put moisturizer on the hair in the summer before diving in the pool and use extra conditioning products in the winter to prevent dry-flyaway hair.
