Introduction

Know About the Domain Internet

Have you ever wondered how are the names of websites made and registered? Have you ever wondered how it works? Many have and have often ended up on this page and hence we shall tell you. First let me explain you what a Domain Internet is. A Domain is the address of the website that will be used to get to the website you wish to be at. The domain doesn’t necessarily have to be the same as your webpage or product or whatever the page is about but is hardly ever different. All the Domain internet names or addresses are registered under a system called the Domain Name System or DNS which in itself is a fascinating technology.

Now the purpose of the Domain internet is to give the applications or pages on the web a unique name for global access. The fact that it is the same as your company name or is related to the contents of the page simply just make it easier to remember otherwise we would have to remember large series of numbers and codes. Another important feature of the Domain Name system is how it separates the location of the web page. For example: A webpage www.something.org.pk can only be on the Pakistan local servers even though it is accessible from all across the globe. Now the DNS is simply a translation mechanism where when we wrote the address of the webpage in text, it converts it into number or series of the address of the server. The computer wants a series of numbers known as the IP address and that is what the DNS provides. So now we know what a DNS is and what is it’s true purpose.

Now the way the Domain Internet system works is a bit more complicated than you would expect. The simplest version is that your computer asks or consults a server called the “resolving name server”. These name servers are automated computer servers whose job is to reply to computers asking to translate a domain name into an IP address map. These domain servers usually belong to your Internet service Provider or ISP. So when you type in Google.com your ISP send the info to the name server and the name server translates the domain name into an IP address for the computer to load the page. Now one security issue that arises here is that theses name servers usually store the information send to them by computers, hence your ISP would probably have a list of all the IP address it provided to your computer. Also since the page and the address is stored at the server and when someone sharing the same ISP has recently visited the same webpage, the server will probably direct you to the same webpage without refreshing it. This is why most ISPs periodically refresh their lookups.
