Introduction

Google offers many products and services for internet users. Finding connections with others and being able to communicate online are some of the reasons people use the internet. Setting up a Google group can allow you to do those things at no cost to you. It’s an easy process and Google currently offers their group setup in different languages.

Google group basic setup

Online interaction is essential for many internet users. An interactive online experience with Google groups will allow you to set up an online and email group, have online discussions, meetings and social events. This can take place with the members by sharing information and reading posts made to the group through email or online applications offered by Google groups.

Creating a Google group isn’t a difficult process. Going through their homepage at www.groups.google.com will be the starting point when you want to create a group. When creating a group you will notice there are 2 different user roles available. Those roles include that of participant or administrator. The administrator is the person that creates and manages the group memberships and activities. The participants in a Google group are the ones who join and participate in the various discussions within the group.

When you arrive at the homepage for Google groups, it’s a very simple process that begins with you selecting “new group” and following the prompts from there. You will be required to give information on your group. Some of the information you will need to enter will be the name of the group, a description of the group and move on to the basic access setup. There will also be options for advanced settings which gives you access for making the necessary modifications when you need to. Once you input the required information, you can select “create group” which will result in your group being created.

After Setup

After your Google group has been created, you will want to be able to manage and view all of the group activities and information. When you are logged in to Google groups, all you have to do is select “my groups” which will result in you being shown a list of the groups you have. Once you are there you will be able to create your Google group welcome message. You can also change that welcome message if you desire. Saving the message within your Google group is essential. If you don’t save the new information or modified information, then you won’t be successful in the welcome message setup.

Once you complete the Google group setup, you need to make sure you thoroughly read the information about the permissions within your group. Different permission levels can be assigned to group members. This setting will allow certain members to perform specific actions within the group.

Multiple actions with your Google group can be performed from within the group. Make sure you assign the appropriate permission level to the specific group members that you want allowed to do specific tasks.
