Introduction

Starting an in home child daycare can be a very rewarding experience. It gives you a chance to teach children, and if you have young children it may even help you to pay your bills while being able to stay home with your baby or toddler! Another perk of having an in home child daycare is that you do not have to use any gas of your own to get to or from work, as you work right from your own home! However, there are many things that you should know to do before considering starting an in home child daycare in your very own home. These are a few things that are legal or could be potentially be legal matters.

 

Step 1

The very first step is to check your state where you plan to have your in home child daycare, and see how you would go about get licensed. You should also check to see the limit of children that you are allowed to have in your home. Some states may allow you too have say 4 children without having to ever get a licenses, although some may require it for legal and tax purposes in your specific state. You should be able to call your country court house and find out all the legal information about what you should do to start up you in home child daycare.

 

Step 2

Call your local insurance company to see what the cover. Will your insurance cover an accident if one was to occur inside of your home? Children fall and get hurt daily, however you do not want to be the one that when the child falls and gets hurt the parents sue and then you lose everything! This has been known to happen to people many times before.

 

Step 3

Assure that you have a safe area for the children to play in. If they will be playing outside the yard should always be fenced in so they are unable to get out. If there is a gate the gate on your in home child daycare should always have a lock that is high enough only an adult is able to reach it. If you have no intentions of letting children go outside then you should always assure all exits from your home are secure with deadbolts and chain locks. Many toddlers can get open dead bolts with no issue and be gone in a flash. If there are any doors in other areas of the house (such as your bedroom for example) where a toddler may escape and get outside without your knowledge then lock your bedroom door!

 

Step 4

Always child proof the interior of your home. Be sure that any stove knobs have covers, commodes have locks placed on them to prevent young children from playing in the water or worse, make sure all cabinets have latches on them locking away any chemicals or pesticides that a young child may grab for. Check all wall sockets and be sure to secure them with safety plugs to guard any child from getting shocked.

 

Step 5

The last step to getting your in home child daycare up and running is to try and get business. Ask around in your area if someone needs a babysitter, post to online places such as local face book boards. Place craigslist ads, make flyer's and put anywhere possible, run a ad in your local newspaper, make professional looking business cards and pass them out to anyone you see who has a small child or grandchild along with them.
