Argentina is a top notch vacation destination. All kinds of people travel to Argentina to experience the country's wonders, which include the Iguazu Falls, Patagonia, the capital Buenos Aires, the wine city of Mendoza, among many other spectacular Argentina destinations. Below you will find a rough guide to what different types of travelers should expect when they travel to Argentina.
Student travelers: Argentina is a popular destination for students taking a Gap Year, but if you are a full time student you can get an International Student Identity Card, available from most tourism agencies and travel offices. This gives you discounted prices on services, cultural events, transportation, and other things.
Disable travelers: As with many locations in Latin America, disable travelers who are interested in Argentina tours will likely find travel difficult. Buenos Aires is leading the pack in wheelchair friendly curbs and general access, but the rest of the country will be difficult. Archeological sites will pose challenges, but most museums are handicapped equipped. Patagonia is difficult because many of the sites require a trek to be able to see them, but sometimes this can be bypassed by taking a Patagonia cruise instead.
LGBT travelers: For Latin America, Argentina is one of the most progressive countries in terms of rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals. In July 2010 the country legalized same-sex marriage, and this included full adoption rights. The only place in South America that preempted this right was Mexico City, which declared same-sex marriage legal early in 2010, though it remains illegal in the rest of the country. Overall, Argentina was the 10th country in the world to give LGBT individuals the right to marry. There are several exclusively gay hotel chains, and Buenos Aires is one of the top destinations in the world for gay travelers. Note, however, that Argentina is still a largely Catholic country, and in rural areas public displays of same-sex affection may be found as shocking by some.
Tips and comments:
Traveling with children: Argentina is an extremely family-friendly destination. Unlike other Latin American countries, children often spend lots of time with their families, rather than being sent off to spend time with the nanny. Many hotels offer rooms equipped for families with children. Additionally, food in Argentina is usually high-quality and only lightly seasoned, so children should have too many problems eating local food during a family Argentina vacation package. Note that children menus are not common in Argentina restaurants.
