The Digestive System
It is common knowledge that for our body to work properly and effectively it needs the much needed nutrients and nourishments. For us to be able to get our body properly nourished, you would need to take in food so that your body can get its nutrients that make it get its strength to carry out our activities. Our body has what we call the digestive system that is responsible for processing the food that we eat to make it useful for our body. Once we eat our food and swallow it, the food passes through the esophagus and down to our stomach where the food is stored for a while. Digestion happens and the food is being passed through the intestines and mixed with fluids that help in the digestion process. It is in the intestine where the nutrients present in the food we eat is being absorbed. With the help of the vascular system, the food nutrients are now distributed to the other parts of the body so it can work properly.
Diseases of the Digestive System
The process of digestion can sometimes fail if there are diseases that are compromising the process. If there is something wrong with any of the parts that have a role in the digestion of food, problems will occur. Ulcer is a common disease that can happen in the digestive system. Due to our hectic life, bad eating habits that are formed coupled with the lack of exercise contribute to this problem. Gastro esophageal Reflux Disease is another disease, which is also known as GERD, which is common in our body. When you have this disease, the food you take in your stomach are pushed back to you esophagus which can be painful in your stomach and give you an acidic taste in the mouth. Heartburn, vomiting, and nausea are common experiences that GERD can give you. There are also other diseases like Celiac and Gastro paresis. These diseases too are affecting the way digestion is processed which can affect the way nutrients are delivered to your body.
Improve Your Digestive System
Before these diseases occur in your body and cause problems in your digestive system, make sure that you improve its condition. Eat whole foods that contain high amounts of fiber which is believed to contribute in keeping your digestive system healthy. Don’t disregard what water can do for you. Drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated. Having the proper amount of water can ensure that your bowel movement is functioning properly. Not all foods are good for you so know which foods are harmful to you. Sometimes, even foods that are good can be bad if you take more than required.
Don’t neglect your body. Watch what you put into your body since that will be what your body will be using for your strength. Your digestive system plays a vital role in keeping you healthy so always take care of it. If you feel something bad with your food digestion, then have yourself checked right away.
