Introduction

Obesity is becoming an epidemic with more and more people entering the overweight category. The number of people who weigh beyond what they should ideally weigh is increasing by the day and millions of men, women and children are facing various overweight diseases because of this.

Unhealthy food, beverages, irregular eating habits, hectic life styles, stress, medications, etc play a huge role in people gaining fat. Sedentary lifestyle and lack of exercise are also important reason for weight gain. When the body is unable to burn the calories, the calories get stored as fat and this leads to alarming weight gain.

History

The excess weight stored in the body is the cause of various overweight diseases in adults as well as young children. The most common overweight diseases are heart diseases, type 2 diabetes, cancer, sleep apnea and gall bladder stones.

When a person is above the desired weight plaque can line the coronary arteries. As these block the arteries it disrupts the easy and smooth flow of blood. The heart has to pump harder and this can cause heart overweight diseases and even fatal heart attacks. The blood supply to the brain can be disrupted and as this blocks the supply of oxygen to the brain it can cause blood clot that can result in stroke.

A person with a greater BMI or a body index has more chances of developing type 2 diabetes. The body is unable to produce insulin and because of this the blood sugar levels increase and cause various health issues. This is one of the most common overweight diseases and regular exercise and good eating habits will help keep the weight under control and reduce the risk of diabetes.

Features

People who are overweight also suffer from sleep apnea. This is a condition where the breathing is shallow and there are pauses in breathing while sleeping. The airways of obese persons suffering from obstructive apnea, collapses or gets blocked.

Obesity can cause overweight diseases like cancer that affects the gall bladder, uterine, colon, cervical and breast. The risk of getting cancer increases by 50% amongst people who are way beyond their ideal weight. As the estrogen levels in the blood of obese people increases the risk of getting breast cancer also increases. Acid reflux, a result of being overweight can lead to esophageal cancer.

The risk of gall stones and other gall bladder diseases is also high amongst people suffering from excess weight. The excess fat produces excess cholesterol and this increases the risk of having gallstones. It can also enlarge the gall bladder and stop the organ from functioning effectively.

Apart from the above mentioned overweight diseases, excess weight can lead to knee joint problems. It can also make a person lose confidence and stop him from enjoying life to the maximum. It can make him depressed and cause many other health and mental conditions that are harmful to the body.
