One of the best ways for you to have a fresh start at life is to change or enhance the way you look. If you want to have a drastic change in your appearance, you can go for a haircut and a change in hair color. Within a span of an hour or two, you can dramatically transform from a blonde to a brunette and vice versa.
People say that the best and safest way to dye hair is to let a hair stylist to do it for you. However, did you know that the process of dyeing your hair is not that hard at all? If you're equipped with the right skills, patience and determination, you can save more money and the chances of you getting the color that you want are higher.
So in order to dye your hair, just do the steps stated below:
The first step is to prepare everything. Days before the dye hair process, you should first prep up your hair. Use a deep conditioner to prepare your hair from the damage caused by hair dye. Leave the product on for at least five minutes each day to prevent your hair from being dry and fragile. Also, after choosing your desired hair dye, it is important to do a patch test to determine if you are allergic to the chemical components of the dye. Perform the patch test 24 hours before actually coloring your hair. Do this by mixing a small amount of dye and putting it at the back of the elbow. If redness and itching are present, then you may be allergic to the hair dye.
If you're not allergic to the dye, then you can start the dye hair preparation. You will need the following:
- hair bleach (optional)
- color cream of your choice
- color developer or peroxide (6% to cover gray hair; 9% for medium tones; 12% if you want to completely change the color)
- mixing bowl (avoid using metal or aluminum)
- coloring brush/comb
- water spritzer
- deep conditioner
- hair dryer (optional)
If your hair is naturally jet black and it's your first time to dye hair, then you should probably bleach your hair. This is to achieve a lighter shade; and so that the end result of your hair will be close to the color shown in the box. Mix the hair bleach with the developer of your choice. Take note that both products should have the same ratio. For instance, 50ml of hair bleach should be combined with 50ml of developer. Leave for 20 minutes, rinse thoroughly and towel dry.
Finally it is time to dye hair. Mix the color developer with the color cream. Make sure that both products are of equal proportions. Divide your hair to sections and start from the back; working your way outwards. Leave for 30-40 minutes. You can also apply heat over your hair using the hair dryer. Spritz your hair with a little water to emulsify the dye hair. Leave for another 15 minutes and rinse thoroughly.
After the dye hair, use a deep conditioner and leave on for another 30 minutes. Rinse thoroughly and style accordingly.
