Introduction

How To Evaluate Infant Mental Health

Infant mental health focuses on the general well being of the child and mostly caters to children from birth to the age of two years. Due to the busy schedule of parents these days it has become necessary to come up with a plan to address the issues being faced by parents, care givers and the toddlers. It has been discovered that more and more parents are emotionally unavailable for their children and this is affecting the development of the young ones as well as having a boomerang effect on the parents and the society in one way or the other.

Step 1

There are certain giveaway signs that a child displays that indicate that they need help. When it comes to infant mental health nothing should be left to chance and the child should be observed very keenly. Most of the first signs that something is amiss with the child’s infant mental health are behavioral. The child may avoid people, become reserved or become violent towards certain members of staff at the day care center or their parents or their caregiver at home. They may lose their appetite or just sit in a corner. The child may also not display emotional attachment or could become too dependent on you. They may also refuse to interact socially and this is a clear indication of poor infant mental health.

Step 2

It has become necessary to come with infant mental health analysis and evaluation programs with the aim of finding out just what needs to be done to improve their general well being and the future adults of this world. The first step in this on going process is to avail the child to a specialist who will evaluate the degree of their progress and who will recommend a course of action to rectify the situation depending on the problem.

Step 3

Once the infant mental health problem has been established, then the parent is also evaluated to try and get the root cause of the problem. Here the specialist may ask intrusive questions but you should not worry as this is in the best interest of the child.

Step 4

One of the best and most effective ways of improving their infant mental health is to pay more attention to them. Dedicate more time to them and slowly introduce them to others. The park is a very good place to develop social skills.

Step 5

Children observe and imitate adults around them and a poor emotional and social display will be quickly taken up.

Step 6

Group therapy is another effective way of dealing with infant mental health problems. Here you get to learn of infant mental health challenges being experienced by other parents while the children interact and develop skills. This is a problem that could weigh heavily on the child and one may unwillingly transfer the stress to the child making the matter worse.
