What Is the Best Skin Vitamin For Glowing Skin?

Why Choose Vitamin E?

Vitamin E comes in a group of eight compounds that are fat-soluble. Some common forms are y-tocopherol and α-tocopherol. While y-tocopherol can be found in soybean oil, corn oil, some dressings and margarine, a-tocopherol is the most biologically active form which can be found in safflower oil, wheat germ oil and sunflower seeds. This skin vitamin is a fat-soluble antioxidant which stops reactive oxygen species production when our body fat goes through oxidation.

The Functions of A-tocopherol

This form of the skin vitamin is more widely discussed. It is an antioxidant that is lipid-soluble and is considered important with regard to skin care. It works in our glutathione peroxidase pathways and can protect our cellular membranes from oxidation through reacting with the lipid radicals that are produced by the lipid peroxidation chain reaction. By removing free radical intermediates and preventing the continuance of the oxidation reaction, this skin vitamin keeps our body supple and lessens the appearance of wrinkles.
Once oxidized it produces a-tocopheroxyl radical intermediates. They can still be recycled back into a-tocopherol when they undergo reduction by other forms of antioxidants like retinol, ascorbate and ubiquinol.

Benefits of Taking Vitamin E

1) Antioxidant Properties

Vitamin E is essential in skin cell protection. It protects us from a wide array of potentially harmful elements like drugs, pollution and UV light. Scientists claim that this skin vitamin is most effective when in a natural alcohol state compared to the acetate form used in many low grade antioxidant creams and lotions.

2) Anti-Aging Benefits

When this skin vitamin is ingested or used in form of creams, lotions or tonics, it works by limiting the oxidation reactions in the skin. This would result in a firmer, more supple and dewy appearance. By battling the free radicals, the skins of aging are lessened and regeneration of new skin cells will occur at a better rate.

3) Vitamin A Regulator

Vitamin A is another important antioxidant. It is also called retinol. This is used in many lotions and creams as well. Vitamin E helps regulate it, and this boosts the anti-aging benefit of the topical ointment or supplement. Retinol also helps by recycling a-tocopheroxyl back to its active state (a-tocopherol).

4) Skin Disease Treatment

When applied topically, this skin vitamin can help cure psoriasis. When taken orally, vitamin E can help cure erythema, which is an inflammatory skin condition wherein tender and reddish lumps are present.

5) Natural Form of Sunscreen

Lotions with this skin vitamin can provide some relief when a person has sunburn. It helps heal the skin by hastening cellular regeneration. If it is used as a sunscreen, it must be slathered on 20 minutes before you expose yourself to the sun. This will give it time to permeate into the deeper layers of the epidermis.

6) Scar Treatment

Although this is still a controversial benefit, some lotion manufacturers claim that vitamin E can soften the appearance of scars. Other studies claim that it may work on mild abrasions but not on incisions. It has been proven to be effective at reducing the appearance of stretch marks and preventing discolorations like age spots.

7) Prevents Skin Cancer

Due to its antioxidant properties, it reduces and treats minor inflammatory responses. This is why it is believed to protect a person from skin cancer.

Other Benefits

This skin vitamin has other benefits. If taken higher than the recommended daily requirement, it may be useful in preventing and treating cardiovascular disease, diabetes and its complications, breast cancer, prostate cancer, Parkinson’s disease, restless leg syndrome, cataracts, menstrual cramps, eye tissue inflammation, asthma and even low sperm count.
