How To Choose the Right Amount Of Gb For Your Hard Drive

Introduction

The hard drive determines a lot of things, which is why it's important to find a hard drive that has enough GB (gigabytes) to best suit your needs. Different people will have different needs, and some will need more space then others.

Step 1

If you're a gamer, you'll need a hard drive that has a lot of GB. Just installing a game onto your computer can take up to 100 MB (megabytes), one tenth of a GB, or more. That's without including patches, specs, or add-ons that gamers often have to install. Also, a hard drive with more GB, means a faster computer. Therefore, a gamer will need a large hard drive, of up to 20 GB or more. If possible, it's also great to have extra space for future upgrades, etc.

Step 2

If you're someone who's addicted to the Internet, you may also consider getting a hard drive with a lot of GB. This has to do with downloads that the frequent Internet user is prone to partake in. Often, the frequent Internet user will also run trial programs, which takes up hard drive space. Also, a fast computer helps the Internet to run smoothly, allowing the frequent Internet user to watch videos and play games online without much of a hassle. Because Internet users tend to like speed, a hard drive with a decent amount of GB is the best choice. Try shooting for a hard drive that has fifteen GB or more.

Step 3

If you're a student or a worker using simple programs such as Microsoft Word, you may be able to get away with a hard drive that has less GB. If you happen to be using Autodesk or Adobe programs on a frequent basis, you may require a little more. The student/worker can probably get away with a hard drive that carries about five to ten GB. If you're a person that uses more "heavy duty" programs, grab a hard drive with closer to fifteen GB.

Step 4

Keep in mind that hard drives have a speed. Although space can help the computer run faster, the speed will effect that as well. Depending on the situation, it doesn't hurt to cut down on GB in order to have a faster running hard drive. Although, if you're going to be storing quite a bit of stuff, make sure that your hard drive has enough GB to handle it.

Step 5

Be sure to choose the hard drive that has the right amount of GB for you. There's no sense in buying a hard drive that has an excessive amount of GB for no reason. Buy the hard drive that has the right GB, speed, and specs to suit your needs.

Conclusion

Buy a hard drive that will have enough GB to store everything you need it to, and to make your computer run quickly. However, in spite of the fact that more space can make your computer run faster, don't sacrifice speed for space, you'll regret it. Different hard drives have different speeds, so it wouldn't hurt to sacrifice a little bit of space to get the right speed.
