What Are The Common Conditions Affecting The Bloodstream

Published at 07/17/2011 23:28:13

In our generation today, where sedentary living is common, presents a real concern over our health. With the advent of fast food, we expose ourselves to the danger of not eating nutritious, and blindly submit to the ill effects caused to our bodies. Some of the common disorders that we can get from these unhealthy living will be discussed briefly.

Atherosclerosis is a disorder of the artery in which the arterial walls thicken because of fatty buildup, particularly cholesterol. Most frequently, this condition will lead to heart attack. This can be treated with high doses of vitamin C, Niacin, and a diet supplemented with oats. Medically, one can opt for medications called "statins" which helps the regression of arterial plaques.

Varicose veins, on the other hand, is the abnormal dilation of the veins in the lower extremeties, although it can occur elsewhere (such as hemorrhoids) due to poor venous blood flow. This can become a cosmetic problem especially among the girls, and is usually painful when subjected to pressure like in prolonged standing. This can be alleviated by the use of compression stockings, anti-inflammatory medications, the use of sclerotheraphy, or surgically by venous stripping.

While Thromboangiitis Obliterans, targets the smaller and medium sized arteries and veins of the lower extremities, results to ulcerations and gangrene which can call for a need of amputation. Management includes daily progressive activity, the use of anticoagulants, avoiding smoking and exposure to cold temperature, proper foot care, and possibly surgery.

Aneurysm, where the blood vessel dilates and bulge due to a weakened lumen, can present a great risk. Once ruptured, it can lead to severe hemorrhage, clotting, and even worse, death. These condition commonly occurs in the arteries of the brain, in the aorta, and in the peripheral blood vessels. These type of disorder usually can be treated by a bypass graft, except for aneurysm in the brain vessels.

Tips and comments:

With these dreaded disorders, one can just opt quickly for an operation or medical intervention. But we have to think, that it is much better to prevent the disease, rather than cure it, where it has already wreaked havoc on our body.
